Re: Sprint Announces Android 2.2 Upgrade for HTC EVO 4G
According to HTC, the Desire is getting a Froyo-based update in August, but unfortunately other smartphones like the Wildfire, Incredible and EVO 4G will not be as lucky. The global PR and online community manager at HTC, Eric Lin, believes they will be done with Froyo testing before Christmas, so that’s when those other devices should expect an update. He also explained that it takes a lot of time to port all of their applications over to Froyo, and make sure that it runs well on all of their devices. That is not like a one week kind of project or small task to do (which is true and reasonable). He also said that they need to make sure that all the applications are taking advantage of the Froyo features. Apparently, the HTC official said that Gingerbread (Android 3.0, reportedly) will be coming in the first quarter of 2011. So unless HTC already has an idea for their launch device, it may be a few months into 2011 before we see an HTC manufactured device with Gingerbread. Contrary to popular rumors, of course.

Re: Sprint Announces Android 2.2 Upgrade for HTC EVO 4G
lol it takes time to make it work and port everything over to froyo. HAHAHAH! Let one of the devs here tell you how long it takes, or am I wrongin my assumtion that it doesnt take as long as HTC wants us to think? It seems like the people here have stable 2.2 roms and they pretty much poped up over night. When I say stable I mean yeah the cam doesnt and work what not but they didnt get the full kernal until just recently so besides that everythings already golden. Not sure what kind of process HTC uses but it must be a slow one.
We are smarter then this, we already know that these things take way to long and the next best phone will be out and the next best OS will be being hacked by the time we get a real port. Id say that the HTC Evo should have been released with 2.2 but obviously N1 is the flagship and thats already but the Evo should have followed in its foot steps and at least been the next phone. Of course though because the evo has already sold to its majority they arent worried about when we get it. Thank god I rooted and didnt do that OTA yet stable hacked 2.2 here we come.. Sprint see you when you finaly get your slow a$$ in gear and meet with most of us at the 2.2 finish line |

Re: Sprint Announces Android 2.2 Upgrade for HTC EVO 4G
Most of the time we always have to wait for sprint to give us updates but I honestly believe that they will release froyo relatively soon(by the end of summer) for the evo. It is a great device and they seem to be on point with updates so far even if it did brick a few phones. I am sure htc and sprint have been working on froyo for evo well before the phone even came out.

Re: Sprint Announces Android 2.2 Upgrade for HTC EVO 4G
my guess would be that they hope to replace non 4g phones w/4g and may not spend the time or energy needed to update the older phones and are instead focusing on this 4g thing
