Re: Full Root On Mac OS X

So long as you don't need the HTC Sync software on the Mac, you should be able to do it exactly like you would for a Windows based machine. All of the Zip files and the likes are for the phone, not the OS. The only thing that's OS dependent is the ADK.

Here's the tutorial I used...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701004

All of the files you'll need for the phone are in that thread. Everywhere it's got something in Windows, you'll just have to do on the Mac. Really there's not much in the way of computer interaction, it's mainly using the ADB tools.

Re: Full Root On Mac OS X

Ok gotcha! So everything I do in Windows I do on my mac with the a d k for mac?

Few questions about the rooting process...
Will I loose everything? What benefits me if I don't want to flash Roms?

With the tutorial link I posted, you will be able to back up all of your apps and your app data, and you SHOULD be able to back up your system settings without any issues. If you're not changing ROMs, do a full backup in Titanium Backup instead of just apps.

If you don't want to flash a new ROM (though I would recommend doing so, the Sprint ROM is fully bloated), you will still get to use all of the applications that require root, such as Wireless Tether, and you will be able to have full control over the phone.

Also, once Mobile Defender is back up and running with their new release, you can install the software as a system application so that if your phone is ever stolen, you can completely disable the phone, activate the GPS, and locate the phone remotely. With it installed as a system application, it can control the GPS settings whether the GPS is turned on or not, and it CANNOT be uninstalled unless the person that steals the phone has knowledge of the ADB system and how to remove the program.

I'm running the Fresh 0.3 ROM and I love it. Better battery life and less bloat than the Sprint ROM.

Re: Full Root On Mac OS X

Thanks for asking the question and thanks for the answers. I was getting ready to install parallels on my mac so I can mess with my phone from a virtual windows console. That would have been the only thing I would have used windows for so this saves me a bunch of work. Appreciate it.

Not yet, I am at work and haven't had a chance yet. To do a full back up with Titanium you will need to do the root portion first since you will need to be rooted to use Titanium. Then you can do your full back up and start flashing roms and all that. This is what I do for backups:

Try using a program called "My Backup". You can download the free version from the market place. It will back up everything, home, settings, sms, mms, apps, call history, contacts, calendar to your storage card.

I wouldn't backup:

home: any widgets or programs not installed yet will not work
settings: it's just as easy to set them back up again
contacts and calendar: if you sync with google
apps: you won't get notified of any updates when available from the restored copy. (They may have fixed this by now but I am not sure) I prefer installing my apps one by one so I know if anything messes something up.

What I do is just back up the data I want to restore and then on a piece of paper write down a map of sorts for what my home screens looked like and then I go in to the Market and downloads and write down the list of all the apps I have installed. Any apps you purchase will still be in your downloads in the market after any rom flash but all of your free apps will need to be searched again.

Hope this helps, let me know how you make out with the mac rooting. I will let you know how I do too.

Re: Full Root On Mac OS X

I just got done reading the tutorial and I will probably give this a try now (after I backup my stuff using "my backup" and write down all my screens and apps.)

What I see is that we will be able to do everything but the nandroid backup and restore using a mac. To do this we need to be able to install HTC Sync on a windows computer. I am going to do everything except install a custom rom, I will wait until I can get one of my windows computers working right before I do that so I can do a nand backup and alway revert somewhat if I need to bring it in to a store or send it back.

So what problems are you having with this?

Re: Full Root On Mac OS X

im just entirely confused with this. lol i remember with my wm phone i would rip that motherfunker up. im not stupid or anything but i just cant seem to get this. ok So let me just cap this up with some questions i have and maby that will help me clarify what im not getting...

Can I Back Up My Scenes?
Can I Still Use The Stock Rom & Be Rooted?
What Is The Difference From Half Root & Full Root?
What Is Nand? Back Up & Restore?

Since I Do Have A Ugly (For A PC Its Actually A Good One) Windows PC In The House Im Sure I Can Use It. If So, Would This Method Be Easier?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706411

Sorry Guys, I Know How To Use The Phone AY'OK Just New To Android Modding.
