Re: For People Complaining about evo's 30 fps 720p

Do you guys all relize that the 30fps is being addressed by google/htc...and will be taken care of by Froyo 2.2 release for the Evo? Google it, I bet you'll see that I'm right.

Re: For People Complaining about evo's 30 fps 720p

my friend has a droid ericsson for verizon. he show me a video of something he recorded. it was like 10 times better than any video i ever recorded on my evo. his video was amazing, it was so crisp and clear. i was thinking "why doesnt my evo record like that?" ... that is all.

Re: For People Complaining about evo's 30 fps 720p

Did you mean to say Droid Eris? The Droid Eris doesn't have as high of resolution camera as your Evo does...you have to factor that into the equation...Each phone is built a different way also..so depending on what they use, and what software they are using details how that camera will react.

If your just looking for a phone, then why the heck would you buy an EVO?

It's primary use is a lot more then just a phone. Most people that own an EVO probably use the phone part less then anything else on the device.

People need to stop saying things like this. These devices are meant to be so much more then just a phone. They are meant to be a multi-media device that allows you to do alot of different mulit-media things while on the go. That is what it's primary use is.

They don't put a 4.3" screen on just a phone so you can see the numbers you are dialing better.........

So you think they put a 1ghz processor in these devices so you can have better call quality?

People, wake up! You purchase a device like this because you want more then just a cell phone. These devices are being made so you do not have to carry around 5 different devices at one time. Their purpose is to be a all in one solution for us.

Sure, some features will work better then others based on technology, but the thing people are missing is the technology is in the device, we are just being locked out of it!

The specs are built in, it is just unfortunate that they would limit it's capabilities.

For others who are just looking for a phone, check out a Startac or a Razr. Their main features is a phone!

I agree 100%. I have seen cell phone cameras/camcorders take much better pictures/video tha the Evo. It seems to me if the technology exists, why not incorporate it into the latest device available. This is one of the reasons I took my Evo back. One more example where the performance didn't support the specs.

+1 eman
The Evo's video camera, frankly, sucks - and I don't think it's because of the sensor. I took some beautiful 8MP pics the other day at the NY Jets open-practice. Great lighting, lots of contrast(players, field, grass) and the pics came out perfect. It even took great action shots(I've got a few catches, a few near catches, etc) - the problem? Video looked like crap, and I'll explain why.

Imagine, if you will, a camera that records every pixel as 20 bits of data for 720p @ 59.97 frames/second. That's broadcast 720p, uncompressed. This uses a WHOPPING 1.5 Gigabits/second of data. That's 187.5 Megabytes/second. This would murder the flash memory on our SD cards. Now, our cameras only do 24 frames/second, like film. That's not bad in and of itself. The problem lies in compression.

A standard DVD 480i movie is compressed to about 5-8 megabits/second. Our 720p camera with nearly 2x the uncompressed data is only recording at about the same bitrate. In reality, we need to record at a much higher bitrate. The Snapdragon processor in our phones CAN do 720p encoding, from everything I've read on it, (Go to wiki and follow the source links, google the processor's model number and read about it, etc), but the problem lies in the camera application. I'm sure we'll see apps written soon that will mitigate this issue.

I do have to say, though, the 8MP camera with backlight sensor kicks tail. The pics I took were AWESOME, so I'm pretty psyched about how the videos recorded from it will look in a few weeks.

Re: For People Complaining about evo's 30 fps 720p

some of us noticed that the screen wasn't refreshing properly without numbers. benchmarks just confirmed it.

i noted it in a brief look at the device while i played with it at the sprint store. my two gripes at that time was the "fuzzy" look compared to the droid - lower ppi - and that the scrolling stuttered while i was looking over a web page.

if you don't notice it, then i'm glad you're just an average user that it doesn't bother. like i said in another forum i notice things in print that most people wouldn't even think twice about since i work in print. some of us are a bit more advanced - that's why we got a pda instead of a just a phone.

if i had to make a guess most the people that have no issue with the performance are either coming from a dumb phone or winmo. those are the people who'd probably be happy with a kin if it had a 4 in screen. you don't need a 1ghz processor to tweet how big a dump you took last night.
