Re: Phone charges while unplugged??

I noticed it worked fine with the stock rom. I tried re-rooting to see if anything changes. It started acting up again when I reflashed the pc136.img to unlock nand protection. I can't understand why I'm the only one having this problem if so many people have rooted their phones.

"It worked fine with the stock rom" well you just answered your question. If it works with the stock rom, then how can it be the phone? Something in the non offical rom is a causing your battery light to stay on. Try a different way of rooting your phone...I've seen atleast 4-5 ways you can do it...try another...until it works...

Good luck!

Tried re-rooting my phone. I went back to stock and followed FastRX8's directions to the letter. Battery light was still jacked up. I tried using the new 1-2-3 step method that was just posted on xda. Same thing. It seems it only happens once nand protection is unlocked. Please tell me this is happening to someone else. It has something to do with rooting. I figured out that once I plug it in and that charging animation starts, if I unplug it, it will keep showing charging. If I immediately unplug before that animation starts, it wont happen. Someone with a completely rooted phone, plug yours in for a minute, then unplug it and see if it stays on. I would really hate to go back to stock just to eliminate this problem.

Re: Phone charges while unplugged??

Don't know if this is any help. I have seen this type of issue show up on computers that have bad USB ports on them, the device you remove still shows up as though it is still plugged in. You say it works on Stock rom and past that point I have not figured out a way to test the USB port on the phone other than to use it as a disk drive. If all that works I can only say that the unit does have a faulty part, I agree that perhaps a replacement unit might fix this. Another option would be to use the Stock ROM for about a week to see if the issue doesn't show up. Perhaps the Custom ROM some how expedites the issue to show in a shorter time frame.

Like I said don't know if any of that helped.

I may give the stock rom some time to see if it shows up then. I haven't seen this issue show up anywhere else. Maybe it is the phone. If it won't show up on stock, they won't replace it.

Re: Phone charges while unplugged??

I cannot get the issue to replicate on the stock rom. It only does it after unlocking nand protection. What is different about the way the charger works once nand is unlocked? I can't understand why no one else is having this issue. I followed the directions exactly and still nothing. I don't even have to flash a custom rom. Once the recovery is flashed, the charging indicator just keeps on going after I unplug it. I can switch from "charge only" to "disk drive" and it still just keeps on charging.

Surely I can't take my phone in rooted to the Sprint Repair Center and say "Hey look what its doing!" and they'll give me another one. Does rooting void the warranty?

Rooting does void the warranty. It's just like unlocking a TP2 or TP1 and installing a Cooked ROM on it..but in this case your messing with the permissions and unlocking items on the phone.

Re: Phone charges while unplugged??

I am running Hardware versin 0002 and the stock ROM 2.1 Update 1 Baseband 1.39.00.05.31 Kernel 2.6.29-a2443432 Build 1.32.651.6.CL171253 and had my phone off, plugged in my VPA, once green unplugged it and the green light stayed on. Powering the phone on cleared the green light.

Hope this helps shed some light.

I also do not have any of apps that another poster described having.

Too many to list though.

Re: Phone charges while unplugged??

My Evo has done this since I bought it on the 4th of June. I notice amber or green Led lights stay on for 3-4 seconds when unplugging from home, car or computer usb charger. This occurs all the time. It does not matter if the phone is on or off. I had the Amber colored Led light stay stuck on twice when I was using the phone for a few hours plugged into home charger. Phone got hot , it never appeared to be able to charge the battery and locked up. It seemed that my phone was using so much power that it was unable to charge the battery , even though it was plugged into Ac power. I pulled the battery and let phone cool off. Phone then was able to charge battery but also continued to have amber or green light stay on for a few seconds when unplugged from a power source. I am using stock rom, unrooted and have hardware version 002
