Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?
I bought three and all have the light leak. The battery took a little working over, but after spending years in what was best described on this site in an "abusive relationship" with WinMo (thanks to the unknown poster for that analogy, it was perfect), I could never go back. All those hours I spent learning how to mod WinMo, I don't need to spend on this phone because it just does what I tell it to do. I haven't rooted, and at this point don't see when I will, because out of the box, this phone is best piece of technology I've ever put in my hand.
HTC or Sprint will fix or replace the screen issue, the battery gets better every day (in fact I cannot kill this thing at night when I try). Sprint v. AT&T is another issue. I've been with Sprint for a decade, CS use to suck, but now we just call and even mention we have a problem and they throw discounts at us, which is nice. Buy the dang EVO. |

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?
I love my evo...and i do agree battery life is an "adventure" but I keep an additonal battery with me from my old touch pro 2. If super battery life were important to me I'd have gotten a phone that was no where near as powerful. For me I've had no hardware issues, and I can't put the thing down. I dare say, i have a mild emotional attachment to it. Apple has mastered this with their products-apple's fans are completely devoted to apple and their devices. I won't hate on their accomplishment.
I am glad I enjoy my evo as much as I do....

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?
I love my EVO.... Thanking the HTC Gods for my good phone..... My battery is crazy now.... I get 9-12 hours out of it. My friend just get 3 and thats with everything off. So i hear people problems and all I have to say is go back to sprint and get another one. Im new to android but that friday when i got it. I was on here and XDA reading everything i need to know about extra battery life. This is not a iphone... That technology is different n better n some ways. But the new iphone 4 sucks and many ways...... Its new and still cant come close to the EVO.... Im ordering the extended Innocell 3500mAh Extended Life Battery when it comes available....

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?
I plan to return mine by Fri (since I bought it from the Shack, I only have a 14-day return policy). Part of the reason for my return is the Android OS. I guess I have been a WinMo user so long, transitioning to the Android OS is proving more difficult than I care to tolerate. Plus, due to my companies security policies, I cannot use HTC Sync to sync it to my Outlook and since Android is not an approved OS, I can't use the MS Exchange option either. I thought I had found a work-around to this hurdle w/ a small PC installed app called gSyncit, but that has proven to be buggy and somewhat unreliable as well. Additionally, I can't manage my mobile bookmarks from my PC (something I have become accustomed to w/ my WM device). The other major reason I am considering returning the device is despite how well its specs look on paper, its performance in real-world use is not as impressive.
Some of my opinions regarding the Evo: - While the 8mp camera takes BIG photos, the picture quality is lacking - 720p HD video recording is nowhere near as good as my DSC-H20 and only marginally better than my TP - HDMI output might be nice, but I haven't used it & don't see myself ever taking advantage of it - The 4.3" screen is nice, but is almost unusable unless you use both hands - Despite trying several browsers, the device seems incapable of displaying animated images (GIFs) - I find it difficult to find good apps in the Android market - Speaking of apps, many of the android "apps" (ones I would use anyway) are just UIs that connect you to the same content available from mobile-based websites. I can accomplish the same tasks from PIE, as opposed to launching this app for this & that app for that, etc. I hope no one misinterprets my post. I am not a WinMo fanboy and I'm not anti-Android. I know w/ enough time and tools (the ability to properly sync the device to my corporate machine) I would probably learn to love the device. But right now it looks like I will need to go back to my old trusty TP (please hold your groans to a minimum-LOL) and wait for the next WinMo device to come out... or jump the Sprint ship for T-Mobile's HD2. |

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?
I've had zero issues. It's been mentioned that the phone has only been out two weeks. The HD2, another great phone, had some major problems initially, but HTC took care of some of them. Plus the XDA community handled the rest. That's how all the phones I've had have been. I got the TP2 after it had been out for a year. If it wasn't for the ROM cooks I would have replaced it quickly.
But with this phone, I love it. I'm not rooted, because I don't need to be rooted. I'm just patiently waiting for the official froyo release (which should address some of the complaints people have - market, flash, etc). The Iphone4 is the same as its predecessor except for a higher pixel count and some late-to-the-game features (cameras, multitasking, etc). The same basic layout is still present (homescreen-apps). Android, WinMO allows for customizations. Moreover, iphone doesn't allow you to use out of market apps. (plus the Android market is growing faster than the Iphone's) It's a very tightly controlled system (more stable yes, but less enjoyable). Plus, AT&T cripples the Iphone as an actual phone. It all depends what you want out of your phone.

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?
As soon as I tried the store demo and saw how choppy it was just scrolling through the app list (later found to be due to 30FPS limitation), I canceled my purchase. Since then, the EVO has just been a laundry list of letdowns - glass separation, grounding/capacitance issues, insanely low 720p recording bitrate, battery issues up the wazoo, earpiece issues, choppy gaming, the list goes on. Granted some of these issues are related to manufacturing batch, but it's still enough for me to write this phone off.
The Galaxy S' screen & CPU run circles around the EVO, and with the Sprint-branded Pro spotted yesterday, it can't be too far from launch. |

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?
I'm very happy with my Evo. It works, works well, does everything they said it would and does it well. I trust HTC more in terms of software updates and build quality than alot of other manufacturers. They're one of the few manufacturers out there who actually build their own products. Not many companies can actually say that. Sprint has taken care of me whenever a handset failed to perform, so I have no doubt they will do right by me with the EVO as well. The professional reviewers have really given this product great reviews, and it shows in the product.
That being said you got 30 days buy it, try it out, if you aren't happy take it back. Personally I'm not exchanging this for a galaxy. After the Palm Pre I'm done with sliders. They always feel cheaper, and thicker, and because of that slide have something else to break get loose. Not to mention I trust HTC way more to support a product software wise vs. Samsung. |

Re: Anyone wish they DIDN'T buy an Evo?
I've had the phone for about a week now. Haven't had as much time to play with it as I would like, but so far here's what I can say:
- Cons TRUELY dissapointed that HTC disabled the ability to have multiple exchange accounts on the phone. - Pros Screen is great Battery life is just fine. I use the phone for an entire day including streaming music both from the SD and from Pandora over my phone (since the OP mentioned it.... I have an Eclipse CD3200 headunit and the BT works very well) Speed of the phone is just amazing. Coming from a Touch to a Diamond to this. It's just amazing. App store is pretty good, I haven't found something, within reason, that's not in the app store in some way shape or form. I have yet to see a phone that compares to this.
