Re: why is google voice using my landline minutes?
Because it isn't VOIP... ( calls aren't over data ) therefore it is going to use your minutes. oh and they are cellular minutes!

Re: why is google voice using my landline minutes?
thanks, but it seems to me we have some confused people in this thread including me. So in noob terms, what are the settings so that my landline does not get used? Also what are the pros and cons of using GV? i tried google, but it didnt help answering my questions!

Re: why is google voice using my landline minutes?
The immediate benefit for using GV is the international calling rates.
I was paying Sprint $4.00 a month for "discounted" international calling. I call Hong Kong regularly and was paying close to $0.10 a minute. With GV...I pay $0.02 a minute with no start up cost. Even if it burns into my "landline" minutes...I still end up saving money in the long run. Also, with the transcription of voicemail by GV...it is NOT ALWAYS required to listen to a voicemail. Even though the transcription is not very accurate right now...thru context...I can tell the gist of a voicemail. Actually its pretty funny seeing what GV comes up with when my grandma leaves a message in Chinese!!!

Quote:
*****GOOGLE DOES MAKE FREE OUTGOING CALLS***** *****Your phone needs to call GV for the call to be connected*****<----This is where the possible usage of your anytime minute(s) So if you have a unlimited anytime plan or "3 numbers, Any network unlimited" feature then there isnt any minutes usage(landline). |
