htc evo picture messaging

My pictures never get received if I am viewing the picture and tap menu, share, messages, tap the little guy to the right of where it says to, tap a contacts mobile phone, tap OK, it inserts a little box with the persons name in it right below where it says To. I hit send and they never get the picture.

To send a picture to someone I have to go to messages, new message or existing, tap menu, attach, picture, pictures, camera shots, and tap the picture I want to send (it resizes) then hit send. With this method they get it within minutes.

Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong on the first step I posted?

OP how are you trying to send the picture?

I am using the stock sprint rom no update.
