This is really weird, especially if you already executed the cat command because that implies you have permissions to write on that folder. I cant understand why chmod would not work.

Umm try this, once inside adb shell type:
cd /data
ls -l | grep flash_image

That will print the permissions on that file.

Re: FULL Root now available!!!

I thought with the original Toast method that the phone was fully rooted. What are the benefits of performing this process?

You can modify the system folder (basically remove OEMs or add system protected apps) within android.

How do you remove system protected apps? I am now fully rooted and want to clean out a few apps I do not use.

All the applications are located in /system/app but be very careful since there are some that are required by the phone to work properly.

To remove them you can use adb shell and navigate to the system/app folder, then rm filename.ext

Ok. I did that and deleted the Amazon MP3 store app. I rebooted my phone and the file is gone from the system folder, but the app is still there and runs under apps.

Odd.. did you remount mtdblock4 with write permissions?
Quote:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
I just did delete the app, it disappeared on the spot, rebooted and the app is still gone.
