Help please - Looping at HTC EVO 4G boot screen

As part of my tinkering, I decided to restore a backup I made after rooting. Now I am stuck at the initial boot screen (htc EVO 4G). It lasts for a moment, the phone restarts, so on and so forth.

I've chosen wipe data/factory reset with no luck.

I can still get into with adb and from the /system/app folder, the reset seems to be successful as all apk files are back.

From the Android Sytem Recovery screen (where I ran the reset), I have this error:

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Looking into that folder with adb, all I see is a log file.
