Different batteries for newer EVOs? Better battery life?

Saw this new thread on android forums... some guy was experiencing terrible battery life, so he returned his phone and his new one had a different looking battery (they also let him keep the old battery). Basically, the newer one doesn't have the metallic lines on the back and he swears battery is better now. Not sure if this is a battery for the second wave of phones or if launch phones had them as well, but could there be a difference in battery life with them? They're definitely wrapped differently.

Check to see which battery you have and please report if you've been experiencing good or bad life with it. This could be nothing, but i figured i'd bring it to everyone's attention just in case. If there's a better battery out there, we should be able to get it.
http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/...-batterys.html

old battery on top, new battery on bottom - part numbers appear to be different: ends in 22m, 25m

and here's a pic of the front of the batteries

of course he could just be having better life because the new phone might be better... but still, different looking battery than what many of us probably have...

Re: Different batteries for newer EVOs? Better battery life?

Well, I was the first one to get an EVO from the local BB and my battery doesn't have the metallic lines so I'm a bit confused. I have the one shown at the bottom of your pic.

I can say, I did the *#*#4636#*#* trick earlier and am noticing a big difference in Battery life now. I think the issue was the EVO was set to poll for GSM and since it couldn't find it, it was continuing to poll eatting up battery life...

Re: Different batteries for newer EVOs? Better battery life?

I have the older one and have been struggling to get decent life...my wife is heading by the Sprint store to see if they have new spares in stock and to talk them into giving us new one for each of us...will update if that happens and the new battery is better or worse.

Re: Different batteries for newer EVOs? Better battery life?

I been following that thread since yesterday and I don't think it holds any water. Me and my girl both have evo's and we both have the older battery and we are experiencing better battery life than most IMO. Two of my other friends just got their evos on wednesday and they both has the newer battery and theirs can barely last 4 hours. Its more to this than just the battery, I have been messing with different settings and I am now comfortable with my battery performance.

Re: Different batteries for newer EVOs? Better battery life?

thanks for ur input muff... i'd hate to think there's another battery out there that's better than what they gave me... i'd still like to hear more people say this... they have different part numbers, so what would be the explanation for that??

Re: Different batteries for newer EVOs? Better battery life?

Here's a step by step I posted over on GoodAndEvo:

1. Goto phone dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Wait a sec and a sreen will pop-up. Select Phone information.
3. Scroll down to "Set Preffered Network Type".
4. If it is set to "GSM Auto (PRL), change it to "CDMA Auto (PRL).
5. Back out of the page and return to your home screen.
6. Reboot.
7. Repeat steps 1-3 and ensure the changes took. "Set Preffered Network Type" should be "CDMA Auto (PRL).

So far, I have been playing with my EVO for a few hours now, off and on, and the battery hasn't budged... Looking good!!!
