Re: thinking about getting the evo, have a few ?s
i kindof miss the keyboard, but am happy with the evo over the tp2. The more and more I use swype the less and less i miss the keyboard.

Re: thinking about getting the evo, have a few ?s
Well same as above I was kinda used to a hardware keyboard but since I was using my stylus most of the times on the TP jumping was not that hard.
So far I have been very happy with the stock keyboard and have been saved many times by the auto correction feature. Tried swype... didnt like it. Software keyboard... I'd like it even better if touchpal made a keyboard for the EVO. As far as resizing, I'm pretty sure all devices do this to maintain compatibility with other carriers and devices but also I'm pretty sure there is an app that would allow you to override that on the market. Signal: Well my house has always full coverage but where I work I used to have NONE, when I got the evo I got 1 bar... when I upgraded the radio I got 2 so yes.. seems to work fine.

Re: thinking about getting the evo, have a few ?s
does it auto rotate for single handed txting? and speaking of which.. how well is the auto rotate on the thing? i hate on my tp2 when i'm sitting back in my chair, or laying down, it rotates and i'm like "NO! STOP IT!" lol...

Re: thinking about getting the evo, have a few ?s
I've always been a hardware kb user... but the large screen on the EVO makes for an easy transition to a soft keyboard. It still isn't as good as having real keys, but it's your best option for onscreen typing imo. The capacitive screen everywhere else is amazing btw. The TP2's resisitve screen feels incredibly awkward now. TP2 has the best keyboard ever, but the device is just too slow compared to what's out now. I still use both devices btw.

Re: thinking about getting the evo, have a few ?s
yeah my smaller hands and big keyboard is great, i kinda wish I could use my nails but I love the keyboard anyhow, I'm use to it now and it's only been like a week, I just used my roommates tp2 and it felt sooo small to me now lol

Re: thinking about getting the evo, have a few ?s
I have two TP2's and i had a TP, Diamond,Mogul,PPC6700.....this phone absolutely smokes them all. you will not even think about a keyboard. I'm far from a "phone fanboy"....but this thing is literally incredible. The camera will blow you away. The speed, no "rendering" the web pages in the browser are just there...Also your TP2 battery WILL fit the evo(and you will need it)...sorry to sound like a kid with a new toy, but the differences in performance are mind blowing.

Re: thinking about getting the evo, have a few ?s
I switched to an EVO as well coming from a tp2, tp, & mogul. and just like you, the keyboard was one of the main things i was concerned about as well. I decided to pull the trigger and get the evo because it was so damn fast. At first i wanted to check out all the customization options and i wasn't impressed, i kept researching and found out that the android OS is very complex in its own way compared to the windows mobile OS.
the text is actually pretty good, the feature i like is that if you hit the buttons on the screen it vibrates, i cant recall if this happened on the tp2 since i only used the keyboard. i dont know about the resizing but for the deadzones question, i've actually experienced better reception at alot of places so im pretty sure the reception is better. you wont be disappointed when you get the phone! when you get it though, remember to do some of the battery tweaks found in the forum, good luck with finding the phone! |
