Increase call quality!

I found this over at XDA. It really does work to increase call quality! If you need to get your MSL # just call sprint and tell them that you need to change from EVRC to EVRC-b. They will give you the MSL, no problem.

  1. Go to Phone and Dial ##8626337#
  2. Choose Edit Mode
  3. Enter MSL
  4. Change Home Orig., and Roam Orig. to EVRC-B
  5. Hit Menu and Commit Changes

This is definitely not a placebo effect. Try it and see for yourself!

Have you noticed any network issues and or change in battery life with this change?

-CC

EDIT: As always, I either ask the rep at the store for my MSL. but this time it was too busy on launch day. I just call *2 and asked for it, never a problem.

Quality is certainly different (I think I even got static noise, but it was easier to hear), also I think it actually used a bit more battery, almost impossible to tell, as the phone is new, apps change and phone usage is never the same from one day to the other.

Wondering though if all of sprint's towers are updated and compatible with EVRC-b. I am especially concerned about roaming on other provider's towers that aren't up to date or compatible with EVRC-b, I think that is why it's default to a even lesser codec.

Wow, made quite a difference for me. Especially roaming! I wonder if anyone has a run down of what all the different modes are (evrc, evrc-b, voice13k, etc).

Last I heard this does not work while using the Airave. However, from what I understand this seems to work other than this. Might have to test drive it to see.

No way at all as of right now. Just tell the agent that you would like to speak to Evo tech support and that the Sprint store advised you to call to get your MSL to change the bandwith to EVRC-b due to poor call quality. I got mine in less than 5 minutes.

If it doesn't work, call back and try again. Someone will give it to you!

If you have an extra Sprint phone available you can do an online ESN swap back and forth to get it.

I changed the values but how do you get it to save? After I change them I go out then back in and they are back to the same old values.

The easiest way in my opinion is to use CDMA workshop (I won't tell you where to get it but its out there), open CDMA workshop with your phone connected to you CPU and dial ##3424# in the dialer. Find out what com port your phone is on in the device manager and select that from the drop down box in CDMA workshop and click connect. Then go to the security tab and under SPC click read and there you go your MSL is in the box, I can confirm this works on the old 2.7 version of CDMA workshop.

As suggested by other poster, you can also get your msl by using the phone swap feature on sprint.com. Even if you don't have a phone on hand or esn #, there are handy sites on the web where you may find one just laying around ;-).

You need your MSL, not your MSID.

Do MSL codes carry over from your previous phone along with your phone #? I have the MSL from the device I had just prior.

No. Different MSL for each one. I guess you may have a 1 in 999,999 chance that you could get the same one though. ;)

Hmm, I am using a really old version. v2.1.1 and when I press read, it says "Failed...Phone does not answer" :pale: Do you have the phone connected using HTC Sync as the connection type?

You use something different to sync. This method worked for me:

+1 except I simply called Sprint (Support) and requested my MSL #
and I was given my MSL# within 2 minutes. .

You may want to simply just call Sprint, worked for me

Well...I finally had a chance to make that call on my lunch break. I said EXACTLY what you said here, and the woman on the phone was very friendly...she said "oh, you're one of the lucky ones who got one of these phones"...and then she said "your MSL code is ######"...very painless, and one of the better customer service calls I've ever had.

Ah, finally got it. The key is that you have to be transferred to tech support. The general customer support folks don't have a clue what you're talking about.

I was able to get my MSL code by asking CS to help reprogram the phone since I was having issue when pressing 1 for voicemail, another # shows up.

This thread should be change to how to get MSL code lol.

*2, followed menus for help with phone, blah, blah, operator...

A friendly gentleman named Abraham gave me my MSL and mentioned that someone else had already called about this. He even gave me the ##8626337# code but was sure to mention that this isn't supported by Sprint.

Can't wait to try it out.
