Re: evo randomly rebooting

I don't think it's directly related to a certain application. I mentioned somewhere else on here and over at xda it sounds like an issue with the OTA radio update Sprint released. Those of us which had TP's and TP2's had this same problem toward the end of last year when Sprint released an update. Everytime an application would try to access the GPS driver the phone would crash. This situation sounds very similar. The only fix then was flashing a different radio.

Re: evo randomly rebooting

Where is your phone when rebooting? Mine reboots 3 to 5 times a day :shrugs:, It has never rebooted if laying on my desk or an a flat surface. It seems to reboot often when on my belt in the Sedio holster / or my leather case. Does the phone have a bad bat connection and a sligh misguided press reset the phone much like the old nokias?

Re: evo randomly rebooting

I've had probably 15 random reboots today alone... I had the Evo restart 4 times in a 5 mile GPS drive with CoPilot 8 running, then it rebooted every few minutes in my pocket after changing 3G status due to my previous problem... Phone would freeze, and reboot every few minutes. I'm thinking a root and maybe ROM are in the works... Or should I send it back and try my luck at a new one?

Re: evo randomly rebooting

I think it's a GPS related issue. Happens during/after using Google Navigation, or an app trying to find a signal. Sometimes during phone calls? But I suppose one of the background location-aware apps could be scouting gps...

Re: evo randomly rebooting

I'm wondering if this and the insomnia problems are related... Anyone else that's having the issues also having issues with their phone not properly sleeping?

Check in Settings -> About phone -> Battery

Should tell your total up time and awake time... If they're the same the phone isn't sleeping properly. I'm wondering if maybe the phone TRIES to sleep but freezes up, crashes, and reboots instead? Not sure how the GPS ties into that theory though...

Re: evo randomly rebooting

Ok, mine was rebooting like mad. It crashed when I turned on 4 g fairly consistently. I did use the unrevoked root app.

I reformatted back to stock - loaded a few (6) apps.

Now my EVO is perfectly reliable and stable. It was the unrevoked root or a rouge app.. not sure which.

29 Hours now without a reboot since I re-enabled mobile networks. I guess that's the problem. Very strange.

To those who think it was the GPS, I have my GPS off when I'm not using it and it would still reboot.

To those who think it was the radio, I checked mine and I have the new radio already and it was still rebooting.

Hope this helps.

Re: evo randomly rebooting

the fact that your gps was off goes with the fact that gps is trying to locate a signal and like mine - if it did not it would lock up and random reboot. im in my office and if the phone sits on one side of my desk thats not so much getting a signal it will search and search - so far this has happened at the same time each day - given that my (what i think) is my weather gps trying to locate where i am to update .

this may also be for other apps that use a location or gps update running in the background to those who are constantly changing area - like navigation OR another program that uses gps and like the android book says - apps are not always closed - they are doormate in the background which is why they pop up to "do their maintence"

and mine just rebooted hah! - with always on network CHECKED
