How much longer for the Android 2.2 update?

I was reading up and since android 2.2 is faster than the 2.1 that comes with the evo, well I want to get 2.2. Does anyone know the release date of it? I think I also read that you can get it by rooting the phone or something like that.

Any news/help would be great.

Thanks

Re: How much longer for the Android 2.2 update?

Yes very likely we'll see a functional custom ROM running 2.2 very soon. So far there are a few out there but they have reported that not all onboard features (such as 4G and others) do not work as of this moment.

Re: How much longer for the Android 2.2 update?

I was just writing about this at androidforums. I wouldnt expect an official any time soon. Fall at the earliest(just speculation...no truths or rumors here) <-this is not to be quoted at all.

All the updates for the moment wiped everything out. These were not OTA either. You either had to go to the store or download the updater from the sprint site.

Updates were at a crawl for that and the hero. They were always "around the corner" even know they said 1st half of 2010 they waited till the last minute. SOOOO i wouldnt hold my breath. Shes an amazing beast anyway.

Sweet. I wonder if an official release of 2.2 is in the works and going to be released soon as well.

For the meanwhile I love my EVO and its plenty fast.

Well officially HTC and Sprint should be working on one since this is hottest phone right now and that may make them release it quicker than before... hopefully.

Re: How much longer for the Android 2.2 update?

The first phone to get any updates is going to be the Nexus One,

I'm thinking the Incredible and Evo will be next in line for a 2.2 update.

Nexus One already has it... Users can download it and install once they follow directions...

That means... We're next

i already have froyo on my nexus, its an official test rom from google and it flys. once google releases the official froyo rom then they will release aosp for froyo, then all the developers can begin to create roms and so forth. OP, nobody has any real answers so its all just speculation. but don't expect it before the end of summer.
