AS far as rooting.. I used the Unrevoked version.. worked great, but you need to do this.

Make sure you goto applications and allow non-market applications.

download a file manager, (do a search on marketplace).

download the unrevoked .apk and then put it in a direction on your sd card

run your file manager to your sd card (after you unplug from computer), and then highlight the unrevoked.apk If you file manager brings up a "open with" or "open as" or "complete action using", scroll down to Package installer. Takes about 30 seconds.

Then I would reboot.. copy the wireless tether to your directory on your sd card, use your file manager to browse to the directory and install it.

When you run it, it asks if you want to grant "superuser access", just click yes.

you can then hit the button to start tether, and may ask for superuser access and make sure you put a check mark on remember this.

when you disconnect, it will also bring up the question on superuser access. make sure you remember it.

It will then work flawlessly with the EVO.!!!! GREAT!

no download the new file 2.0.2 and use either root (unrevoked is the easiest) and then just launch the program and click " allow super access"

NO need to do a backup.. All Unrevoked.apk does is actually grant the "superuser" access.. You will not lose any data AT ALL. All it does is unroot, does nothing else to allow you to load custom roms, etc.. just ROOT.

No need to run any commands, commandline, etc..

Just run the unrevoked.apk from your sd card after you copy it to there (on your phone), uplug from the computer, and make sure you check mark "allow non-market apps" or something like that.

Trust me.. will not brick, kill, or do anything stupid to your phone. You will have the Stock Sprint roms, programs, etc,, just ability to root, AND the free Wi-Fi tether link posted by the OP does work, and is FREE,,, (works great!)

Dude, don't waste your time rooting your phone. It will mess up some feature. The camera will not work, and if it do work, the quality is crappy. You would't have that HD no more. The photo will have tiny pixel box.

I think that happens if you flash 2.2 (froyo) on your phone not by rooting (which should keep all your current settings).

Yes flashing means installing a brand new OS while rooting is giving more access to certain applications so they can perform duties that they could not do regularly (such as unconditional wifi tethering)

Think of rooting as using the admin account on a computer while flashing is a clean OS install.

well im thinking about rooting but i cant find any info...idk if i should backup my contacts and such and if so idk with what lol its like getting my mogul going for the first time again i need answers! back up before rooting yes or no?
