How do you get google to sync with the phone?

All of my contacts synced perfectly the day I booted up the EVO. Since then I have made changes on the phone, added some contacts, pictures to contacts etc.

I am not seeing those changes on my google account on the PC. Is there some button that needs to be pressed or some switch turned on?

I am coming from wm 6.1 and this Google Synch is new to me. I just set up a google GMain account. I have Sync working on my laptop but I can't seem to figure out how to do simple tasks like tranfer files i.e pictures, video, music, documents from my laptop to my phone. It does not appear in an explorer like my Mogul did.
How do I perform this type of operation?

Thanks it's set to auto sync though...I should not have to press the sync all should I?

You can download several different file explorers from the market place. Personally I use estrongs file explorer but there are a few other as well.

Sync all did not work either. The contacts on gmail on the computer are still all of the contacts I imported into days ago. The 5 or so I entered in on the phone are not there.

Any ideas?

Now I remember reading about this problem a few months ago...

The contacts on the phone that are listed as a "Phone" contact will never sync with google. They must be set as a google type contact.

This is so dumb. Does not look like you can change it either.
