Re: The EVO DOES NOT support voice dial over Bluetooth!!!

If people had read any of the threads before getting the EVO they would have known it didn't have Bluetooth voice dialing. I think I read about it the first day the EVO forum went live...it's call "Research".

If you live in a state where you shouldn't be on the phone when driving then maybe you shouldn't be on the phone when driving, Bluetooth or now. If you have to be, you can still answer call with the Bluetooth, you just can't make calls. Is it sooooo important for you to make a call while you are zipping down the road at 75 MPH that you can't pull over or wait till you stop?

And there is this little plug in the phone where you can plug a wired headset. Try one of those...they aren't so obsolete that you won't be able to find one.

Re: The EVO DOES NOT support voice dial over Bluetooth!!!

Well, in NYS it's not actually illegal to drive and dial, only drive and hold the phone to your ear. If you look here,in this NYS Court Decision, it states:

Quote:
We note that the Vehicle and Traffic Law defines a "hands-free mobile telephone" as

"a mobile telephone that has an internal feature or function, or that is equipped with an attachment or addition, whether or not permanently part of such mobile telephone, by which a user engages in a call without the use of either hand, whether or not the use of either hand is necessary to activate, deactivate{**26 Misc 3d at 57} or initiate a function of such telephone" (Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1225-c [1] [e] [emphasis added]).
Defendant's statement to the effect that she was activating the telephone in her pocketbook by attaching the ear piece to her ear reflects conduct which the Legislature chose not to proscribe. Furthermore, the statute specifically provides that " '[e]ngage in a call' shall mean talking into or listening on a hand-held mobile telephone, but shall not include holding a mobile telephone to activate, deactivate or initiate a function of such telephone" (Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1225-c [1] [f] [emphasis added]).
In layman's terms, it's ok to dial, but it's not ok to hold the phone to your ear. Next time you get a ticket like that, atleast in NYS, point out to the cop that he's a moron when you go to court. Do so by referencing this court case.

I dunno where the OP lives, but if it's NY, he/she's in clear if they dial while driving, by tapping the screen - aslong as the actual speaking is done via hands-free.

Well heck, for that matter, just make use of voice dial but press-and-hold the search softbutton and then speaking the appropriate dial commands... then you don't even have to look to dial...

Re: The EVO DOES NOT support voice dial over Bluetooth!!!

Any state that has the cell phone law, like mine your still allowed to dial the phone number and press call...but to put the phone up to your ear, or txt while driving is illegal...Also you can have your phone in your hand, turn on speaker phone and talk while driving...that is legal...funny but legal. Like I said and others have said..this is being addressed in the Froyo update...and should be a non issue from then on out.

Doesn't work at all. I contacted the developer and he tried to blame it on the Q1 not being AD2P compatible...when I gave him the link to the website to prove to him that he didn't know what the hec he was talking about...he suggested I update my Q1 firmware...I told him that my firmware was up to date long before pairing it with my Evo & installing the Tell2Me app. Now I havent heard back from him in over a week. So I wouldn't recommend trying that app. If anyone knows of another that will read me my texts like Voice Command did on my TP2, please tell me what app so that I can get it ASAP!!

I never used voice dialing on my TP2, I only loved that it would read me my incoming texts & emails through my bluetooth.

Re: The EVO DOES NOT support voice dial over Bluetooth!!!

Have the Evo - just haven't changed my info.

FYI - the Parrot Minikit Slim bluetooth car kit pairs with the Evo and grabs your address book from the phone. You can voice dial from the car kit. You can also put in voice tags if you can't understand the voice that comes with it - pretty much screws up Hawaiian names.

I just got this a couple days ago because I was trying to find a workaround for voice dialing from my bluetooth headset and it does work.

j.

PS - didn't realize I don't have any info.....had a Diamond before this and didn't like anything well enough to upgrade phones.

It's not a "must have" app for me, but it would be really nice!
