Sigh, I had read through this post and countless others before I bought my phone, completely prepared not to accept the update so I could root. But I guess when they were activating it at Radioshack, they accepted the update for me (even though I kept saying not to!)...or it came with it.
I really hope the new root they come up with isn't too difficult, I didn't exactly feel confident in my abilities to do it before I read through this post. On that note, OP, I think you did a really good job explaining the old root for noobies on androids. :P |

When we copy the rom to the SD card do we have to rename it to PC36 yadda or w/e?

PC36IMG and placed on the root of your SD card in it's zipped form. Depending on your OS the file extension may be hidden. A common mistake is that users TYPE "PC36IMG.zip" so with the file extension hidden it becomes PC36IMG.zip.zip which will NOT be read by your device. Make sure that after Part I you remove the file or rename it. Last edited by iknowsquat; 07-04-2010 at 06:01 PM. |

No, you do not have to change file names of the ROM .zip files that you want to flash. Once in Recovery you'll choose "Flash zip from sdcard". Just pick the one of the ROM you want.

Actually, quick question too. If I already have the OTA update, there's no reason I shouldn't just upgrade to the 1.47 version right? I mean, I'm assuming whatever fix they come up with will cover both any updates after the OTA that screwed it all up.

Go to Menu>Settings>About Phone>Software Information>Software number What's your number? The first OTA changed it to 1.32.651.6 The second/latest OTA software is 1.47.651.1 EDIT: If Radio Shack installed the latest OTA updates you're done, no root for you If you are 1.32.651.6 do NOT update!
