Did you ever root using unrevoked? I posted a video and the link is in post #2. Check it out and make sure you're doing the same thing.

At this point, the whole process is getting so easy, I would suggest that anyone having issues should start from scratch.

Do the downgrade steps first - http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=124158
Just do the first 3 steps, then follow my post.

Yes. As I understand it simply flashing the Stock ROM will "un-root" you.
There is a thread about the Stock Evo ROM here, initiated by mindfrost.

Yes. Very simple.
There's 2 official signed roms you can install.
RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6_Radio_1.39.00.05.31_rele ase_171253_signed.exe
RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_rele ase_171253.exe

There's links to them in the downgrade thread.

It turns out that I didn't have HTC Sync installed so the .bat file wasn't working.

Hmmmm, maybe if I had just read the directions? Note to all: READ ALL OF THE DIRECTIONS, THIS IS A CRYSTAL CLEAR GUIDE!!!

Thanks so much!

Re: EVO - Root|Recovery|Nand Backup|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Videos

Alright fast I think I understand this correctly. First I have had the OTA applied and have rooted with unrevoked. So my understanding is that I need to flash the two roms that will downgrade my roms and unroot my device. 2nd I need to use the unroot the device following your outline, 3rd use the auto update from the rom manager app and then create the nandroid back up. Finally flash a custom Rom. Quick question what does the recovery do and the nandroid back up is a copy of what exactly, the unrooted "stock" rom that I just auto recovered and I would need this to restore the device back to stock for repair purposes.

Hi winmo, I'm sure you are awake and nice to see you here from the NRGZ thread

Hi winmo, I'm sure you are awake and nice to see you here from the NRGZ thread
You have the right steps.
Downgrade and start over.

Recovery is the step that allows you to flash roms. Without recovery, your rooted phone has Superuser Permissions, but your actual rom is not rooted. It's a good idea to at least install a rooted rom on a rooted device. Even if it's just the stock rom rooted w/ no other changes.

Nandroid backup is a backup of the Nand memory or something like that. I'm not sure what exactly it is, but I know the developers are working hard to crack it and get write access to it. Which will give us more possibilities on the phone. For know, they just suggest backing it up in case there is some catastrophic error when you're doing stuff to the phone. Other than that, I have no idea. I just learned this stuff on Friday after I got my Evo.

If you every have to return the device to sprint, you should return it to stock.
Just follow the downgrade directions.

Re: EVO - Root|Recovery|Nand Backup|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Videos

First off, great guide. It helped me feel a lot more comfortable rooting my evo. One question, I made the nand backup, but I really don't know what it is, what I can use it for, and where it went. Since you telll us to do it before flashing, did it make a backup of the rooted rom? Can I go back into recovery and make another backup, and will it backup all my apps and current settings? Can I use a nand backup created from another evo? Did it save a file to my PC, or is it on my evo somewhere?
Thanks.

On my wife's phone after the OTA and unrevoked method, I rooted it using this method and I couldn't see the Superuser Permission either, until I flashed a custom rom.
I would suggest, if you're rooted, do the new auto-recovery step that I described, then do the back up and install a rooted rom.
You can install a custom rooted rom like OMJ's which works great or you can just install the stock rom that you have now, but the rooted version.

There's a thread on XDA that has all the links -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698044

If you just want stock, I would suggest the "Stock with Root OTA update1" that way you have everything you see now plus the OTA is done and it's rooted w/ superuser permission app.

That's a lot of "One question"

1- Did it make a backup of the rooted rom? - Yes
2- Can I go back into recovery and make another backup? - Yes
3- and will it backup all my apps and current settings? - I don't know what is being backed up
4- Can I use a nand backup created from another evo? - no clue, but that's currently being discussed here - http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=124539 starting at post #15
5- Did it save a file to my PC, or is it on my evo somewhere? - Your sdcard in a folder called Nandroid

Sorry I can't be more help. I learned this stuff on Friday after I got my Evo. I read everywhere that a nand backup is a good idea and toast says to do it in his instructions so I did it. Apparently, something is being saved and as things progress on the development side, that backup will be useful for us. For now, I'm clueless.
