Re: [TUTORIALS] EVERYTHING EVO - Rooting | NAND | Flashing Roms | Wipe

It worked for me. But as long as you have a pretty standard looking ROM, I would just not worry about it.

Unrevoked worked great for me. I couldn't get it rooted the manual way (probably didn't understand a step). Then I just followed the OP instructions for the recovery process.

I went the unrevoked route as well, but after I run the "recovery windows" .bat file as admin (win 7) nothing seems to happen.

Any ideas?

HTC Sync has nothing to do w/ it. I just verified. I tried connecting through HTC Sync and it just timed-out. While leaving the phone connected, I went to a dos cmd and typed "adb-windows reboot recovery" and it worked. Then I ran the batch file and it worked. Got into recovery screen.

Do you have another pc you can try? I did it on xp and Windows 7. I haven't tried my laptop w/ Vista yet at all.

ALL i want to do is remove sprint ware and not break anything else. if i ROOT will this allow me to remove the items i need all while not breaking anything??

thanks in advance..
No, rooting will not allow you to remove the Sprint apps.
Here's my opinion.
Follow the directions outlined in post #1.
Flash OMJ's Latest rom which does not have the Sprint software, but it does have the OTA Update included. 4G works on his rom. So does the free wifi tethering.
Also, flash the new radio because it may give you an even better signal.
And finally, call Sprint to cancel the $30/month hotspot and start sending OMJ $10/month for his roms and send me $5/month for suggesting it.

Re: EVO Full Root|Recovery|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Vid

Need some help. I'm at the manual recovery part. Just like some people that posted, when I try to reboot in recovery, the black screen comes up for a second and then disappears. Then, I tried to boot in recovery by inputing the commands (as recommended at the bottom of page 11 of this thread). The message it gave me was "adb server is out of date killing.... adb server didn't ACK *failed to start daemon* error:"

Not sure what commands you're referring too. If you reference a post, say the post#. I have my default set to 40post per page sure currently, there's only 9 pages.

As far as commands, as long as you extract the evo-recovery into a folder as I mentioned in the 1st post, you can just type the command into a run window.
Or better yet, you should get comfortable w/ adb shell.

Connect you're phone and select "Charge Only."
Make sure USB Debugging is on.
In a run window type;
c:\evo-recovery\adb-windows shell

That brings up the shell command window.
Everything you type there goes straight to the phone.
reboot recovery (for booting into recovery)
Then you can run the .bat file straight from the run windows like I described in post 1.
