Re: battery = horrible less than 4 hours standby

I live in a shit coverage area where it flip flops between roaming and 3G. I can get about 14 hours with what I consider heavy usage: lots of texting, randomly surfing the net, playing a few games, etc. I did all of that with the stock battery. My Seidio battery came in the mail shortly after I got the phone from Best Buy. I got about 18 hours with my first initial full charge. Right now I'm trying to run it through a few full charge/complete discharge cycles before I mess with it again. I haven't really done much else to compensate for battery life except I just turned the always on data setting off. I'll see how much that helps. When I had my Touch Pro I kept it plugged in aaaaalllll the time because it would die at the drop of a hat, sometimes for no apparent reason.

Ahh, Windows Mobile makes us all love Android just that much more!

I went 14 hours today, down to 15%, no charging, moderate usage.

Re: battery = horrible less than 4 hours standby

I run Executive Assistant with twitter, facebook, and google reader syncing every hour on my home screen, have google talk running all the time, have about an hour's worth of phone calls a day and I am sitting on 20% still right now at 6 AM and I last had my phone on a charger at 6:30 AM yesterday. It has to be the 4g and bluetooth IMO.

Re: battery = horrible less than 4 hours standby

Sprint seems to confirm that killing apps may be a good idea to prolong life. Makes sense to me, I know this is an area of debate (to ATK or not)...

"In general, the less frequently you allow these applications to update, the better your battery life. If you find there are applications you don't use at all, for the best battery life experience, configure the application to either not sync at all or to sync at the lowest frequency. You can also end the application or service by going to the Running Services Widget mentioned above."

I am at 18 hours and still have around 25% left.

Turning on wi-fi helps me.

Re: battery = horrible less than 4 hours standby

Turning on wifi only or using it as well (instead of 3g/4g)?

Didn't see your post until now.

Honestly, I downloaded Advanced Task Killer from the market.
Some people say not to do this because Android has it built in and what not. But I'm just using common sense. I run it probably twice a day. Certain apps like Sprint Navigation, Fring, Qik, etc like to start up at random times without me knowing. So I just kill them. Don't autokill with ATK, just manually do it. Auto kill can get tricky.

(Now I know the whole debate about task killers, but I don't see any harm done to my phone at all. I recommend it actually. Some say it will cause your phone to reboot randomly, but I have not experienced this at all. They all say Linux utilizes memory differently than Windows. Which is true, but in the real world, I am noticing better battery life with ATK.)

The ATK should take care of your up and awake time being the same.

Other things I do:

Use wi-fi at work and home. Just less strain from the 3G radio always looking for signal. (I usually get 1-3 bars at home.)

Auto-Sync....this is a big one to me. I turned off auto sync for weather completely. I just manually update it. Works for me. I turned off news and stocks also. I'm playing around with G-mail settings right now for the auto sync.

I turned off GPS location. I wasn't using this feature a lot. You can try to keep it on if you want. The only thing I noticed this doing was that it found me more precisely when I used Google Maps. I don't mind activating this when I need to use GPS.

I hope that helps man. Like I said, you don't have to turn off all these things. Just tweak it the way it suits you best. I tweaked mine to suit me best. Others may not agree but I enjoy everything about this phone and I use all the features it has to offer.

Wi-fi only. I do this at work and at my house only. All other times, I turn wi-fi off and use 3G. I don't live in a 4G area

I turn off my Mobile Network from the widget. I only do this when I get 1-3 bars from Sprint. The Radio will keep searching for signal and it consumes battery.

Also to those using WiFi make sure the WiFi sleep policy is set to never. At it's default it will shut wifi off and revert to 3G when the screen has been off for 5 minutes.

Re: battery = horrible less than 4 hours standby

I have been monitoring my battery usage over the past 3 days on what I would consider moderate to heavy usage. On the 3rd day I used 4g for roughly 6hrs and it didnt seem to make any noticable difference in my battery. Charge at bedtime and pull it off the charger at 5:30ish am and run til about 9-10pm roughly.

Below is a screenshot of my battery graph over the last 3 days.
