you never know when the official version is coming. Sure they put a time period on it, but look how well they stuck to that with the Hero update they promised. It could take forever.

Besides the fact that sense is cooked in, if you build a rom from aosp that is not a half ass port over, its a stock rom just not from HTC, HTC has to build the rom from source also then incorporate sense also. Now if you're using the stock rom to build a rom, now that's a different story and depending on what features aren't working, you can decide if its worth it or not

There is one difference with this situation and the WinMo situation - in WinMo, we were always running a buggy system, and hoping against hope that the update would solve our problems. This OS is stable as it is, so the sense of urgency to update recedes as you use the phone - it works pretty darn good as is.
