Can the phone be activated on his sisters account and then just have Sprint swap the phone numbers between the two devices? (I am in a somewhat situation where I am getting a new line on my account with the EVO but want to transfer my phone number from one phone on the same account to the new one)

buy it from BB or the Shack.. they give instant rebates... you can activate on a different line soon as you leave the store if you like without penalty

Insurance is on your line, not on your phone. I switch my work phone out every now and then depending on the battery life I need. Whatever phone is activated on the line has insurance.

Yes. It has to be on that line for 30 days first.

This isnt true, the manufacturer warranty stays on with the phone for one year from original activation. I've bought used phones off ebay that were still within the one year warranty and I was able to get the manufacturers warranty.

NO MATTER WHAT PHONE IS TIED TO YOUR PHONE NUMBER it will carry your TEP insurance. I dropped my TP2 for a Samsung s30 for two weeks before I get my EVO and I am payin the seven bucks for the TEP on the Samsung. It doesn't matter what phone it is.

I'm asking about which phone line though...say my current number is 1111111 with Plan A and I add an entirely new line 2222222 (Plan B) which I add the EVO to. Then I come home and call sprint and tell them I want to swap the two phone numbers so Plan A has 2222222 as it's number and Plan B has 1111111 as it's phone number with the EVO staying on Plan B. Will the insurance stay with the phone number 2222222 and be moved to the Plan A line with the old phone or will it stay with Plan B (now 1111111) and stay on the Evo?

This should be able to happen but I think they forsee what you are trying to do and when I have attempted a port at the BB they always kick back and say no CDMA to CDMA port ins with the same carrier. Basically they don't want you to do this. Go to BB and get it for 199.99. Make sure Sprint gives you the Upgrade back.

The insurance will stay with the line. It does not follow phones. It follows lines. When you switch phones you can add insurance though can't you? I don't know I deal with BB's insurance policy.

I think I got it semi figured out. Just got off phone with Sprint, I had a data line last month I cancelled that was eligible for upgrade and they reactivated that for me. So I have an eligible line now... Next task this week is to add a phone to the data line with the $69 package and get them to swap that phone number with the phone number from the other phone line which isn't eligible for upgrade. Maybe they can cancel that line and port the number over at the same time or something.
