Re: Well.. this sucks for EVO 4G owners to be (including me)

Well apparently things aren't looking good for wimax this week...

Russia's Yota said they going LTE (They are the ones who released the first wimax phone the HTC MAX 4G)

http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/05/2...om-wimax-to-l/

And Motorola is showing off some TD-LTE USB dongle prototypes..(This is the LTE variant sprint is interested in)

The $10 extra a month allows for you to have truly unlimited data. Nothing wrong with that. relax guys.

Sprint and 4G arn't going anywhere anytime soon...Basically Sprint is looking into adding this LTE down the road to coinside with 4G. So settle down, your precious Evo 4G will work...

Well for cellphones at least..this doesn't make wimax obsolete as a technology but as far as for cellphones yes.

This though brings the question of TD-LTE vs FD-LTE >.>.which one will prevail...

so yes even if wimax is gone from mobile space there is still a war brewing...

For the record verizon and AT&T are going FD-LTE while Sprint if it were to go LTE would be TD-LTE

Re: Well.. this sucks for EVO 4G owners to be (including me)

As long as Wimax is still being expanded then it'll be ok. They mentioned future plans for San Francisco area which is what I'm looking forward to. But if no one's investing in Wimax but Sprint then I assume there's a change that the technology will cease and future expansion not happen?

Actually wimax is invested by Google, Intel and almost every single cable company..but they are more interested in the "broadband" potential of wimax over cellphone.

Re: Well.. this sucks for EVO 4G owners to be (including me)

I am glad to have a 4G option to use today (or whenever it launches in LA) and when the time comes I'll be happy to switch to whatever is next. If my EVO doesn't make the jump after over a year then so be it.

Didn't read this entire thread. Just adding some info. LTE is faster now. WiMax "Should" be faster in the future. Sprint has a big decision to make.

And by investing in Wimax, all they did is give some money to clearwire, right (google and the cable companies)? I know Intel is pulling out of the Wimax game, so if Clearwire does too, that would pretty much kill it for the USA...
