I'm sure it can...
but i think its the light sensor that did it on the tp2...so i think the EVO should be capable.

Re: Speakerphone

Here's a youtube video of a guy that was able to get his hands on the Evo for a day...from what I can hear, the speaker on the phone is good quality...it won't be anything like the TP2 in terms of dual speakers but this phone is way different in design...

HTC Evo 4G Audio and misc stuff

also here's another preview of the Evo 4G..and some of the things it can do.

Re: Speakerphone

iirc the screen-down speakerphone uses the accelerometer and the proximity sensor, and according to http://www.sizlopedia.com/2010/05/13...unch-june-4th/ the Evo should have both. TP2 used the prox sensor to turn off the screen when its up against your face, the light sensor was used to handle the auto screen brightness. I'm coming from the tp2 and I really hope the speaker doesn't suck. I always get a kick out of whipping mine out to play a youtube video that my friends are struggling to hear from their phones, then having to turn it down to 50% because its so loud.

Re: Speakerphone

hmm.. I always thought the speaker sucked. However before I started using smartphones I used Nextels and they always had loud speakers. Seriously though I always have my phone volume all the way up and in an office I can hear things clearly and fine but outside it seems like it falls short especialy the ear peice I have to practicly press it against my face instead of holding it to my ear. HTC speakers just flat out suck and thats why so man of us look for a cab to fix it so I am guessing the speakers on this phone are gonna be weak as well.

I'm pretty sure it will. Kinda standard on HTC devices nowadays.

It's definitely controlled by the accelerometer, because if you have it on its face on a surface that isn't perfectly flat (like leaning 5 degrees on a bed), it won't kick in.
