EVO's screen colors???

is it true that the Evo' screen is only 65k colors? if so, thats a huge turn off for me since i had a palm pre and other 16bit devices and it gonna be a step backwards if it ends up with a washed out screen like the hero had... i know that it has pretty much the same screen as the hd2 and its 65k but wasnt that a winmo limitation? or is it the hardware?

How can it be a step back the evo has a higher pixel count than the palm-pre, Colors have nothing to do with clarity,Pixel count is the key for clarity

I can't believe anyone would compare the palm-pre to the evo in screens.

Re: EVO's screen colors???

... where did u read that it only has 65k colors... thats a limitation of android 1-1.6 not any android set 2.0+ and thats also the limit of winmo 6.5 so i bet that the tft they used can handle alot more than that

Re: EVO's screen colors???

Man...I'm about as picky as they come about video clarity, but seriously? Even if it is 65k colors, I'm failing to see how that could be such a bad thing. It's not like we're running 256 color 80386 computers here.

Re: EVO's screen colors???

Both hardware and software canlimit screen colors and bitrate. The HTC Incredible has 65k colors and is 16bit. It's likely the EVO will be the same but with the larger 4.3" screen. I myself would like for it to be 18bit or higher with 256k color or more but it's probably not. Heck I used to have the Verizon LG VX8700 and it was a flip phone with 262k color and 18bit! It seems the larger screens have lower specs. Not sure why though.

Here's the best display I've seen:
Palm Pre - 16.7 million colors @ 24bit!!!

Holy shit. I guess I never really noticed the difference until I looked at this post on my TP2. Both of those pictures look the same on the TP2 which is also 65k colors. Well, I stand corrected. lol

Re: EVO's screen colors???

This image is the test I use on all new phones. The color bands should flow smoothly from one hue into the next. There should be no banding. The image size is 800x480, and it will be one of the first images I put in the picture gallery to see how good the color is on the EVO 4G.
