So then you think they are really trying to say, "hotspot add-on is required in order to use the hotspot feature?"

And they accidentally said, "hotspot add-on required in order to access wi-fi on the device."

Not very likely. Not only do they pay people good money to write the fine print that that quote was taken from, but I'm sure some sprint PR person would have addressed it by now if it was wrong.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid of them. But it does appear to be exactly what they are doing.

It wouldnt be the first time they messed up in writing after all they did tell people that 4G would be free remember...lol and the reason I think they messed up is becoue in the press releas it states...

Additionally, an optional pricing add-on will turn HTC EVO 4G into a mobile hotspot connecting up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Yeah, I know there will be an optional pricing add on to turn the device into a hotspot. But they are saying that optional hotspot add-on is required to access wi-fi on the device at all.

Re: Sprint charging just to use basic Wi-Fi?

Per Sprint live chat:

William
There are some concerns in the community that there will be a charge of $29.99 to use the Wi-Fi function of the phone.
17:27:18 William
Not to use the Hot Spot feature but the actual Wifi
17:29:15 Kayla F
Are your referring to connecting the device to a wife device or connecting other wifi devices to the Evo?
17:30:13 William
To connect the Evo to a router, not to make the EVO the router.
17:31:35 Kayla F
I am checking this for you now.
17:31:44 William
Thank you.
17:33:35 Kayla F
You will be able to connect the HTC Evo to other wifi enabled devices. There is no fee for this part of the feature, but the wifi you use the Evo on might come with a charge if it is not your personal wifi.
