I honestly think that it is just the wording, they have to mean for the wifi hotspot for the 8 devices. I hope anyway.

Re: Sprint charging just to use basic Wi-Fi?

you need to have wifi on so that the other devices will link up to the Hotspot, that is what a hotspot really is just a wireless router pretty much.

so i would say "no" sprint is not charging to use wifi as basic stand alone.

You have to enable the Mobile Hotspot on the phone to enable the 8 devices to connect, wifi is seperate...just to clarify.

why does it say must purchased by 6/5/2010 and activate by 6/18/2010 for the rebate.. yet says activation required at time of purchase too.. Sprint cant even get their "offical" language written out correctly lol.. and why is the mail in rebate only available for 24hrs lol

I think the OP is correct in his assumption. I also think a root to change things a bit (as it has with other Android phones) and then an appearance on this page will be forthcoming.

I think they mean the hotspot add-on is required to access the device as a wifi hotspot not to use wifi to connect to your home router

Boy these extra fees are getting better and better, lol.

Pay $30 a month just to use basic WiFi? No freaking way. They are out of their minds at Sprint, lol.
