Please, go back through my posts and tell me where I said LTE is better? Tell me where I talked about the benefits of LTE over WiMax or vice versa. All I've stated, is that, unfortunately, or fortunately (however you want to look at it), most of the major players are headed down LTE. What happened to Betamax? Was it superior over VHS? Maybe, possibly. Did it win? No. What happened to Microsoft, Toshiba and HD DVD? I don't see any HD DVD players out there in the market over BLU Ray at the moment. It's not always about better technology. It has to do with companies and the paths they choose, and the wars that are fought.

This is not a discussion about what is better technology.

It evolved from Whether the EVO is a worldwide phone because of WiMAX technology to whether it will be a world phone in the future, something like that.

I'm gonna leave the wimax lte discussion at that.

i was just wondering, because everytime a simple question is asked, the usual suspects show up with the same ol' same ol'.....winmo is dead, android better, sprint sucks, tmo doesn't have coverage, nobody uses wimax..etc. for once, i wish folks would just enjoy what they have and let the next guy enjoy what he has. my 2 pieces of lint.

Since i know you're talking about me instead of directly just saying it, its funny also coming into the same threads and not having any info on the topic at all or reading the post to find out how it happened and still making posts, guess what its a discussion forum and i kind of feel like youre trying to tell me what and when to discuss, just my 2cents.

Re: Evo a World Phone?

Dan Hesse said WiMax will be a lesser used tech than LTE, but they went with that so they could have a product ready to go before other companies. They may even support LTE in the future. Sometimes being first can be a good thing, assuming a proper product launch. Last I checked, T-Mobile USA was in talks with Clear, to possibly use their network for 4G. T-Mo publicly stated this (http://paidcontent.org/article/419-t...ith-clearwire/).

But, whether or not you can use the Evo in a non-US WiMax area will depend on if the frequencies are compatible. If WiMax in Mother Russia uses a frequency range outside of the Evo's capabilities, you won't be able to roam on it. Or, if Sprint doesn't have a roaming agreement with the WiMax networks in another country, it won't work either.

sure, maybe it's possible when calls go over wimax, but that possibility is still years away and a lot of places won't be getting wimax for a long time if it's not a big city. personally i think all the new high end phones from sprint should have a GSM/WCDMA radio.
All you guys took it the wrong way. Basically sebo got my point, I am hoping that the Evo had a SIM card slot like the TP2 does, thus making it a world phone. And yes Sebo i agree with you, all high end phones should have a GSM/CDMA radio. We pay high prices for these phones and do deserve that option.

Re: Evo a World Phone?

yea but hopefully because of the lack of that it will be cheeper. unlike the tp2 that was still 300 without mir in decemeber. it was more expensive at release aswell. now what i would agree with is a evow4g model that had a world phone capability.
i mean adding that duel spec chip could add atleast another 100$ to the price tag

I wouldn't mind paying another hundred dollars if it did have a dual spec chip implemented in it. It would be worth it because something newer comes out, you can still sell it over seas or even buy to sell it over seas. Get your money worth.
