evo MUST HAVES and ESSENTIALS

I thought i would start a topic for all the people who just got their EVOs so they would know whats out there and available for their device. Everyone post your favorite apps/settings and essential modifications so the new people can know where to start looking like myself. THANK YOU

THE NUMBER ONE NEEDED APP IS JUICEDEFENDER I SWEAR IT WILL AT LEAST INCREASE BATTERY FIFTY PERCENT EVEN IF YOU ARE REALLY CONSERVATIVE

***THE LIST***
Estrong File Explorer - to access your SD card and manage files
Fring - video calling and instant messaging through multiple services including SKYPE
Flixster- Movie app; check movie times watch trailers and find theaters near you
Pandora- make your own music channel based on your favorite song and stream it FREE
Shazam - listens to songs and tells you the artist and the song title
Google Goggles - this is a unique app, you can take a picture of many things like logos and will be instantly connected to information and products
LED light or similar flashlight app - use led lights of camera as flashlights MUST HAVE
Google Earth - just like desktop earth on your EVO
Tunee Music- Download virtually any song for free just search and go AWESOMEEEEEEEEEE
Mobile Defense - locate, lock, and sound an alarm on your phone from ANY computer ANYWHERE
Google Voice- consolidate all your numbers to ONE....cant begin to explain

******MORE****(less essential)
Trapster - See where there are photo radar stops and where cops are setting speed traps and get an alert when close
Battery Status Pro- Gives battery percentage in the task bar and tells how much time

*****more thanks to OMGWTFBarbecue post #35******

Re: evo MUST HAVES and ESSENTIALS

First thing i would recommend to do is tune your evo so that the battery doesn't drain fast. Change the settings for any application that would connect to the internet automatically like facebook, twitter, friendstream, email, location settings etc.. alot of the applications have this option so just disable it or instead of making it refresh 15-30 minutes change it to refresh 2-3 hours or just turn it off completely if you don't use it that much at all.

another thing is to change your brightness, the brightness setting in the stock rom is set high so there will be strain on your eyes and your battery will get sucked away from it. to change it just hit the menu button and go to settings, now go to sound and display, scroll all the way down to brightness and set it to what suits you best, i have it set to right in the middle of the check box and letter A of Automatic Brightness.

you should also go download the program taskpanel from the market, it lets you turn off programs running in the background, it also has a widget for a one touch button so its easy and simple. any task app would be fine i just like taskpanel because of the widget feature.

Re: evo MUST HAVES and ESSENTIALS

Turn off Google Talk! I just discovered this earlier today because it's activated by default, and who the hell needs a chat app constantly running on their phone when we have SMS and MMS? I guess there is a purpose for it, but most of us will probably never use it and it's a constant drain on the battery.

As far as what to get, I won't mention ATK because it seems there's a lot of debate over whether it's necessary, even though I use it. If you like streaming internet radio, there's an app in the marketplace called A Online Radio and I love it! It has a full Shoutcast directory and you can add any .pls files you want.

I'm just getting started and I'm new to Android so I can't recommend much else. What's really necessary comes down to personal preference really.

While in Google Talk, you should be able to just hit menu > Settings and then uncheck Automatically sign in. Then you can hit menu > more > sign out. Granted i don't have an Evo but it shouldn't be that much different.

Thats the thing I never sign in. I get notifications that I have an IM, but that comes from the status bar at the top. I dont see the gtalk app in applications.
