EVO Screen Protectors Thread

I am a big supporter of ALWAYS using a screen protector on my high end phones. This thread is for discussion of various brands available for the EVO.

According to the Sprint EVO box, no screen protector is included. I took the screenshot and compared it to a scan of my Touch Pro 2 box (see bottom of this post). The TP2 box lists it while the EVO box doesn't. Unless they messed up on the box, then the EVO will not include a screen protector.

Here are some I have found so far.

Clarivue
Cost
$12.99 for 2 - LINK

Thoughts
I went ahead and ordered a pair for $12.99 shipped (clear). They also have anti-glare and I suspect they will create a privacy version as they show on their website for other phones (not that I would want one). These supposedly have the nice, smooth glass feel.

I found the coupon code Clarivue7 over at the retailmenot coupon site which took 10% bringing it down to $11.61. I figured I would give them a try since they have some good feedback and I get 2 for less than 1 Zagg.

UPDATE: I ordered over the weekend and got my shipping notification by email today (5/17), so that confirms that they are actually available now and shipping.

Zagg
Cost
Full Body - $24.99 - LINK
Screen Coverage - $14.99 - LINK

Thoughts
If you want a full body shield or like a more rubbery feel, then Zagg is a good choice for you. I personally like the smooth feel which is part of the reason I did not go with Zagg. Their price is also a little steep for my tastes. I have never had a Zagg, but some say it turns yellowish over time

Here are some possible Zagg coupon codes - LINK

Reviews
Review 1 - PPCGeeks

Clearfreak
Cost
$14.99 on their website - LINK
$3.99 on their ebay site (free shipping) - LINK
Thoughts
I am not familiar with this seller, but they were mentioned in this thread, so I added them in.

Ghost Armor (pre-order)
Cost
$14.99 for full body coverage - LINK
$10.00 - Pre-order price for full body coverage (as of 5/18 anyways).

Thoughts
I haven't used it, but I have heard good things from others.

PhantomSkinz (Pre-Order)
Cost
$9.95 Screen Only
$24.95 Full Body
$24.95 Matte Full Body
COUPON: Use coupon code SPRING25 for 25% off your order. Just tried it and it took.

PhantomSkinz EVO 4G LINK

Personal Thoughts (from GeneralPatton at androidforums)
Originally I was going to get the ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD, however, I heard from friends that it has a rough texture, so moving your finger around your screen may not feel 'right' .. with that being said, I decided to Pre-Order the "screen only" $9.95 PhantomSkinz. Right now, my status is "Held for Shipping" and the S/H Cost was free, so my total was indeed, $9.95
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Touch Pro Box (left) vs EVO box (right). Note that no screen protector is listed on the EVO box like it is on the TP2.

Re: EVO Screen Protectors Thread

I love the Zagg covers. I've had about 12 or so over the years so I know how to install them, but when I installed it on my BRAND NEW Evo - the same installation instructions I've always used caused the spray-on to get into the screen and fried it.
$100 deductible from asurion to replace my new $299. phone! Ugh!

Re: EVO Screen Protectors Thread

are there any screen protectors that work for capacitive screens that don't have that tacky feel? i hate feeling like i'm running my finger over a sticky candy wrapper. i removed a bodyguardz protector in favor of the stock sprint protector on my tp2 for this reason.

may have to try seidio... clarivue sounds pretty good too. i feel like people rave about the others just because of the full body proection aspect. i only care about protecting the screen without hampering the touch experience too much.

good question. i assumed it doesn't... capacitive glass screens are less prone to scratches, right? seems like protectors aren't included as much with devices with those screens than with devices with resistive screens... or do many of them come with?

eh, i felt that way with the full body stuff a couple years ago... but then i realized i don't drop my phone anymore. i also leave the phone in its own pants pocket when i'm out (that's almost automatic), so i don't have to worry about coins/keys scratching against it. basically, i stopped treating it like a flip phone and i'm not worried about extreme scratches cuz i don't encounter them. minimal screen protection is all i need for those tiny scratches that tend to appear..

I change devices at least once a year for my main line. hell, my tp2 is flawless, screen and body, and i only have the stock sprint protector on it. I'm glad i didn't go with another full body like i did with the tp1. made it look uglier than it was - eventually. zagg and others alike annoy me more than satisfy.

I'll be happy if Sprint provides one!

I had a Zagg Invisi-shield on my TP... and it definitely saved the screen from being scratched. It did feel tacky to the touch though... Didn't really care for that, but if my screen stayed unharmed then it was all good.

My concern is the rumor that it yellows out for awhile. Didn't have the TP long enough to see if it did in fact turn yellow.

Did you notice a yellowing on yours WarChild?

+1 here!

I went out and got the zagg full body invisa shield put on my tp2 the day i got it... I hated it just like you said it was sticky and (IMO) made the touch screen too hard to use my finger wouldnt slide across the screen instead it made it skip around and that sucked! I went to the mall and bought a screen protector from one of those little kiosks it was made by cellet and it has been prefect ever since!

I also gotta say that as far as for the rest of the body of my phone, the zagg shield was perfect by it being so sticky and rubbery it makes my phone stick to surfaces better and not slide around so much also gives me a better grip when i pick it up. I will probably get the zagg shield put on the back of my evo but will never ever use a zagg shield on the screen of my phone again.
