Re: hTc Evo 3D Specs thread
I find the concept of viewing 3D on such a small device like a phone totally silly, a good marketing gimmick though. Just like the dual screen model, many will rush out and buy the day it becomes available.
But, I think you guys have missed the bigger picture here. HTC released both the specs and a "Partial Schematic" of the new 3D. Hummm Partial Schematic, how much of a push, do you think it would take, to get them to release "all" of their product schematics? What's so great about that, you ask. Well, first let's take a stole down their current repair policies. They're keeping it in-house, tied to the carrier (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, etc.), all others phones, are out of warranty. And so, not worth the expense, to send it in for service. We see charges for, for broken USB ports as "customer abuse", when it's actually poor factory soldering. We see over sensitive moisture indicators voiding customer warranty, as wet phones. Voided warranty for "rooted phones", installing "newer software versions", and the list goes on. To me it sounds like they don't really want to service their own product, just roll it over. So, when your $500 phone breaks, so sad, just go buy a new one. And dump the old one of eBay as someone else's problem. I could be wrong, but, I think we're better than that. We're already replacing, batteries, Digitizer & LCD's, cannibalized from those expensive hulks, found on eBay. I see there are a few more user serviceable parts inside, but, We're really flying blind without a proper schematic & parts list. If the schematics were available, there are several other service organizations available that could pick up the slack, slow the rollover, and lower the over phones cost. So, now that HTC released the 3D's schematic, appears to be the perfect time to ask them to release the rest of their schematics for their older model phones. We can no longer afford to live in a throw away world. Repair is still, one of the higher forms of recycling. Keeping equipment running, is better than wasting resources. Consumer Electronics OEM/MFG for Radio, TV, &, other personal electronics, here in the US, always did supply schematics for their product, back as far as 1939, What Changed? You certantly wouldn't buy a new car, and be dictated to, that you could only buy only one brand of gas or, oil, or had to use one service center, for the life of the vehicle. So, why are we accepting this, as standard practice, with our phones? So, I say it's time to ask, first HTC, politely, but, firmly, since they've opened the door. And, see if the other OEM's don't follow as well. IM Btw: Attached, is the new 3D's processor schematics. |
