Re: specific advantages over iPhone?
the iphone is really locked down so there is not that many modifications that you can do to it. (good for people that want phone mainly for apps , games, internet ect...)
android based phones are highly modifiable if you root it. ( easy for most android phones) (tons of apps available also) if you want a phone that you can modify and theme ect.. an android device would be your best bet. (assuming you are a little tech savvy) the htc thunderbolt will be coming out for verizon soon it will have a 4.3 in screen (largest screen size for phone) im using the htc incredible and it has a lot of developers that work on it so there are tons of modifications that can be done to it and its a great phone (still one of the top of the line devices) Last edited by wes342; 01-11-2011 at 06:44 PM. |

what I found with my Windows Mobile HTC XV6700 was that yes, it was highly modifiable (I ended up flashing a new ROM and applying all sorts of tweaks) but all those modifications were necessary to get it and WM6.5 to work to its full potential. I know some people like to modify just because it's fun, but I'm wondering: with the modifications, what will it actually *do* that the iPhone doesn't do out of the box? Aside from the sheer fun of modification, what functionality does it get us that isn't reachable on the closed iPhone platform? Is it mostly themes and appearance? I haven't used Android much and am trying to get the feel for what the modifiability will actually get me. if you want a phone that you can modify and theme ect.. an android device would be your best bet. Re: specific advantages over iPhone?
It hasn't been officially released but people say end of March early April. Engadget has the overviews of the 4 4g phones coming to verizon.

Re: specific advantages over iPhone?
It's my understanding that the Verizon iPhone will be 3g, not 4g.

People won't assume you're a hipster if you get the Android phone.

Widgets. That's what android has that iphone doesn't. I like being able to customize my home screen(s) however the hell I want, not just a cluster-$*^@ of icons. Every time I see my sister, there's this drive within me to play with her iphone. It only lasts a couple minutes before I get bored.
