Internet Tethering Information

Simply asking, can I use the Incredible as a Wifi hotspot?

Can the Droid Incredible be used to do internet tethering, either through wifi or by using as a modem? I currently have the TP2 and this is a great way to get internet everywhere on my laptop that I cannot normally get WiFi. Im thinking of jumping ship and was curious. If not, I'll stick it out with the Touch Pro 2.

Also, is this standard out of the box, or do I have to unlock or I believe the word is 'root' the device to use said feature?

pdanet is an option right now but once we are rooted yes we will have wifi tethering similar to whats on the tp2

I also see you have had the TP2 along with the Incredible. Can you briefly describe the major advantages/disadvantages of upgrading? Always good to see another user's perspective when they are along the same lines i plan to take.

I also came from the TP2 and so far I'm loving the Incredible. I miss the keyboard and tilting screen but that's about it. The on-screen keyboard and auto correct work really well though and typing is speedy.

I was looking around and found an app in the market called Easy Tether with a free version and a version for $10. The free version doesn't allow https sites. My only concern is if Verizon can detect this method or not.

I was just going to post the exact same question regarding using the Incredible as a WiFi hotspot. Anyone here using PDANet? Does it work & does Verizon know what your doing (is it going to be chargeable)? Really want to switch from my TP2 but really need this feature to work.... Thanks for any help!

Just FYI, Easy Tether is only $10, I believe PDAnet is double that.

I have a Touch Pro 2 as well (activated a new number to get the Incredible and moved it to my primary number and the Touch Pro 2 to the new number so I can use WMWifiRouter as a mobile hotspot). My company (which I own) pays for them both.

I do miss the hardware keyboard some, but the Incredible is SO MUCH BETTER!!!! I only turn on the TP2 when I need to access the internet remotely, and not around a hotspot already. Other than that, it's ALL Incredible for me!

Verizon knows if you are using USB Tether though don't they? I don't have any issues having to plug up a USB if VZN isn't going to hit my bill for a crazy charge...
