Re: Internet Tethering? WiFi/Modem?

from what I understand, if it goes on the net using your default data connection, there should really be no way of knowing.. All you are doin with those programs is sharing the existing connection, if i'm correct. I just use it for browsing and the occasional MMO play to kill time. I'm sure that if you don't abuse the connection they won't even care.

if you use VZaccess manager they can tell because it uses the @DUN.vzw3g.com username and third party apps (ie PDAnet) uses the @vzw3g.com username so for all Vzw knows you are just using your phone as normal. of course if you go over 5Gb (or something around that) they might start looking at your usage and you may get hit with something. I have never heard about anyone getting caught tethering this way but it is a possibility.

Re: Internet Tethering? WiFi/Modem?

Yeah, I have for sure gone over 5GB a few times, but only here and there , not all the time. So I imagine that as long as you don't overdo it you'd be fine. The PDA internet plan is UNLIMITED, but the small writing mentions something about suspicious use or something like that. I don't remember quite well since it has been quite sometime since i got it.

Re: Internet Tethering? WiFi/Modem?

^ you've went over 5gb a few times being USB Tethered without being charged/noticed? I don't see myself getting anywhere near that amount but you never know... Sorry just trying to make sure before I get the Incredible.

Re: Internet Tethering? WiFi/Modem?

i was using tetherberry but since it doesn't work for android yet i switched to pda.net app and it seems to work fine. I've left it connected for hours at a time and no problems. I am only using their free version of the program but should be good enough until incredible is rooted.

Re: Internet Tethering? WiFi/Modem?

I downloaded a full online game client on a new laptop once while on the road. I think its like 7gb, no problems whatsoever. But keep in mind that constant abuse will probably attract attention. You can go over the 5gb just by actually streaming stuff on the phones so its probable that you may go over here and there. The PDA plan is actually unlimited.( sort of) You know what i mean, unlimited till they decide you are too much of a burden for them.. So try and keep it reasonable.. I think a few members in here work for Big Red and they may have something to say on that matter.

Re: Internet Tethering? WiFi/Modem?

Well 2.2 is bringing Wifi Hotspot integration

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/13/a...hotspot-funct/

so lets round up what we know about 2.2 so far.

*It will enable Wifi N
*It will give us Flash 10.1
*It will give us faster speed
*It will give us automatic updates
*It will give us an Interactive assistant for new users
*It will give us Wifi Hotspot capability

Re: Internet Tethering? WiFi/Modem?

Thats all good IF VZW releases it that way, or if the device gets rooted because then even if they don't i'm sure someone will.
