regardless of that, there are defects with the diamond, i experienced them. i went through 3 of them. the first one's speaker barely worked, the second was hard resetting itself from my pocket, and the third had problems with the d-pad and freezing with the stock rom. thats 3 phones bought at 2 different stores. my first pro i kinda broke, and then second has been fine also. so, from my perspective, i've had 3 faulty diamonds, and no faulty pro's. i'm not saying that the pro doesn't have quality control issues, but the diamond has its issues as well... don't act like its a gem brought down from the heavens by god himself.
The MAJOR difference here is there are MASS issues with the Pro vs individual issues/situations like your own with the Diamond. No one said the Diamond is god send so quit hating, but realize the difference between mass issues and isolated issues. And im sorry but the Diamond had no reported mass issues with it like the Pro is having and that is FACT from threads made in the past 2 months not just my sole opinion, go check the Pro forums vs here for more comparison and youll see the same trend

Funny you should say that.

I currently have a TP and I'm now strongly considering switching to a Diamond. I'm on my second right now. First one had a creaky battery case and the issue with the phone dying even if on the charger. Now my new (refurbished) one doesn't want to light up when the stylus is taken out and the screen appears to be warped where it says "htc" on the bottom of the screen.

Re: Keep Diamond or go to Pro?

i don't know about the first 2 diamonds i had, but the third i had was definitely warped where it says htc at the bottom of the screen, and so were my pros. i think that is universal.

Re: Keep Diamond or go to Pro?

having just got the diamond pro recently as an upgrade from my mogul... I will add my tiny bit of advice...

Screw the miniscule difference in the bulk of the phone... this diamond pro feels like i'm carrying a credit card instead of a phone..... the differences of weight/bulk CANNOT be that noticiable...

what it all comes down to is if YOU NEED A KEYBOARD...
in my case, that is a definate YES... I needed the keyboard.... the on screen keyboards ( even the new iphone that zooms in for corrections, even the new blackberry with the 'click' screen) the on screen keyboards just do not do it for me... I need a REAL keyboard.

Basically, buy the touch diamond (AND SAVE EVERY PEACE OF PLASTIC AND PAPER AND RECEIPT THAT COMES WITH THAT MOFO)...

Use it for a while, see if you can deal well with the keyboard controls (some can, some can't, I prefer not to try)....
If you can deal with the on-screen keyboard, there is no advantage to get the pro, and you will feel like you're carrying a, I dunno... smaller credit card... (point being they are almost identical in weight and size).

NOW if you are like me, and you text a lot, you already have tried on screen keyboards and do no like them... THEN go right ahead and skip the test drive with the diamond, and jump straight to the touch pro. (same deal.. keep everything just in case you don't like it....)

it all comes down to, do you want a keyboard that slides out???

P.S. I just got the phone, but I have had the 6700, 6800, and messed with both the diamond and pro touch versions before chosing.

If anyone thinks there is some other reason not to go through what I suggested, I'd like to know!!!

****SIDE NOTE**** while I was getting my touch pro, a kid was returning his... and downgrading to the samsung instinct.... His complaint was lag and the volume was too low.... I simply thought he doesn't realize that PPC phones are hack, i mean... able to be customized.... in order to make them louder (in most cases) and remove unnecessary software to speed it up.

(seperate question: like i said just got it sorry.... with the 6800 I unlocked GPS and used garmin on it, I like the garmin.... is it worth it to try and put garmin on the new htc touch pro???? the plan comes with sprint nav, but I like the garmin software.... I guess that is off topic, but any PMs on that idea would be nice to know.... just explorin the new phone. Thanks!!)

Re: Keep Diamond or go to Pro?

i use tomtom7 on mine.. with any data reliant gps software, you lose the ability to talk on the phone while using it, and i normally use gps while in nyc so i don't have to read street numbers (my eyes are terrible at night), and i'm normally on the phone. sprint nav really isn't that bad though, i've been using it for years on other phones. but given the choice, i would most certainly choose tomtom7. though, i use sprint nav for traffic reports, because its pretty damn acurate.

ou2mame brings up a good point about editing spreadsheets in excel, stuff like that isnt the easiest thing to do with the onscreen keyboard taking up half the screen. Im sure there are lots of other little things like that pro owners will share that you may not have even though of.

ok... like I said last post... I just got the phone... but why do we have 2 seperate forums for this phone..... I guess, can someone tell me what the difference is between the diamond and the pro BESIDES the flip down keyboard? A keyboard doesn't seem like enough of a difference to make a seperate forum.... maybe a sub-forum for keyboard related issues.... but unless there is some other major difference I am not seeing, we will simply have 2 forums for the same phone (if I were to look at it... they are both HTC touch, HTC diamond, and HTC pro which has an additional keyboard).

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the diamond and the pro have different forums? I guess I just see a ton of double posts.... it is the same phone, make one forum, and a sub-forum for those with keyboard only issues..... or is there some other difference i'm missing here...???

I loved garmin on the 6800.... I could accept calls while using it, make calls... it did check for traffic reports and other info via the mobile phone connection... Only downfall was that the 6800 often would not run all of this smoothly unless it was restarted first.... hopefully the extra mem. with the touch pro would help.... can anyone who has used both the garmin mobile ppc app and sprint navigation give any advice?

Re: Keep Diamond or go to Pro?

there's hardware differences with it too.. its not just the keyboard. some software is different, and some things are unrelated to each other. its better to have it separated.. even the roms aren't backwards compatible without tweaking.

The Diamond is basically the same as the Pro if you don't have an issue without a slide out keyboard. The big deal for me was the size. I know the units don't measure that much difference, but their is a huge difference.

The Diamond is almost identical in size to the BB Pearl and the it's a bit thicker (slightly) than a Moto V9M, but the Moto is actually longer and wider!

I love this phone and 4 gb is more than I've ever used on a phone even with my company's db on it, by almost 2x.

Pro has the card program, micro sd slot, slide out kb, video out and soft reset on the outside.

I actually have found the Diamond to be a much more solid device all the way around...
-No creaking in your hand
-Clear earpiece sound and mine is much louder than my Pro was
-Much smaller, especially the feel of it
-My Diamond is much snappier with stock ROM than my Pro was and batt life is way better
-No silver on the sides, it's a shiny black (I like it a lot better)
-The camera seems like it catches more vivid details in pics
-Alarm works the way it's supposed to
-My Diamond has obvious better screen touch response on the corners where the Pro was not sensitive enough on edges at all and overall much better

My only down side to the Diamond, would be the maroon back, but I'm actually getting used to it and may even prefer the color soon.

Boy that got long!
Sorry... I tried out the BB pearl and it would be bulkier than either pro or diamond touch...
and again, side by side... these appear to be the SAME phone, only one is a few mm thicker to allow for a slide out keyboard.... IS the screen truely any different? any different in sensitivity? Is the camera used on both the exact same camera?? Does the diamond have a different size, make, model, ANYTHING rom... that would explain it being 'snappier'. yes, changing to landscape when you pull out a keyboard uses some processing... and you are around about the battery life, as sprint even states the pro has slightly less battery life....
but, are these issues due to any hardware differences, at all??? is there any software differences other than the rotation upon opening the keyboard????

Basically.... is this guy just happy cause he traded in a phone with a keyboard that he didn't need, for the same basic phone minus keyboard that costs less, and now he feels it is better.... or are there actual differences that can cause this other than a placebo effect?

thank you... it was my impression that we were basically dealing with the same phone, basically same hardward and speed... only one gave an option for a keyboard. does anyone know these specific differences (hardware) software i'm not as worried about... the diamond came out before the pro... I think they just hurried to make the previous softward compatible with a keyboard and expect a new software release for it (most likely both for the diamond and pro, especially with the addition of the pro and keyboard)

I am not trying to argue or say one is better than the other lol... make that clear... I got the pro because I text and type WAY too much to be using a touch screen only keyboard... I can't use the new blackberry one nor the apple one without being frustrated...... so I KNOW the pro is the way to go for me... however I am interested in what differences there are.... and I apologize for my noobish questions, its been a while since I was really active upgrading my 6700 and 6800
