There is no such thing as white dye. There is bleach for cloth and white paint for other things. http://www.pburch.net/dyeing/dyelog/...4/E1035496870/ "Dyers like to say that white dye is called water. Dye is transparent, so a white dye would have no effect on the color you place it on top of." |

Re: DIY Black battery cover
Honestly the ECRU Dye on Rit's site looked white on their site. But I checked a color chart and apparently its a lightish yellow? Odd thinking that the color of the image would be wrong on their own site. Either way, I'm going to stop by a crafts store and find a paint that works if that is the case. If all else fails we'll have another black success story.
EDIT: This is the dye I was talking about. http://www.ritdye.com/Powders.28.51.6.31.lasso It looks white or at least like a light gray on their site. But oddly enough their own color chart says that it is a yellow. I'm either going to find a white paint that works, or try making the back cover this color dark blue ... http://www.ritdye.com/Powders.28.51.6.42.lasso ... because it at least somewhat resembles the color blue in the Touchflo 3d interface. SO, I will at least def. be trying a color other than black. Last edited by JQuill; 11-28-2008 at 06:27 PM. |

Re: DIY Black battery cover
FYI - I haven't dyed my phone, but from fabric / clothes dyeing experience, unless it's a dark enough dye, it'll pick up whatever color you're dyeing over. Example: blue dye over red would come out some shade of purple. Light shades of dyes won't work at all, unless it changes it to some off shade of red that it already is. You can dye over white or light colors, but only a white background will give out the color of the dye that you're using. Black dye, if you do it long enough, will cover the red. If it's not long enough, it'll probably come out a darker shade iof red or maroon. Not sure how the navy blue would come out - it might be dark enough to cover the red, but maybe not.
To all of you who dyed your phone black, it looks really good - seems a lot better than all the trouble of painting. |

Re: DIY Black battery cover
Hey guys I dyed my phone black with the RIT Dye and it started turning red again, but i re-dyed even after that it still came off. It's not actually rub off from the black dye. You just need to get a microfiber cloth to buff it out anyways it came out good. I had some black acrylic paint from the first time i tried to paint my phone. It didn't turn out to well. This time i had some more experience i bought a brush that had a super fine tip and i had my g/f paint it (she had steady hands). So the remaining burgundy part was painted. Anyways some photos are below if you have any questions feel free to message me.

Re: DIY Black battery cover
looks nice just hope you never have to bring it in for TEP servie by a tech cause theyll notice that right away and reject servicing the phone. Dying the cover and stylus is one thing, as you can get extras, but that port is part of the phone's plastics and cant be simply replaced.

Re: DIY Black battery cover
I just did mine and WOW. It looks like I bought it that way. It is amazing!
I also painted the USB port. I used Acrylic paint I got from the fabric section in Wal-Mart. Good thing about the paint is you can peel it off with ease if you decide to change the color again. Im gonna go to my main Sprint store and see if I can get a few more covers. If I can im gonna make one blue and keep one stock. |

He replied to my post a while back asking the same thing... you have to try and get them from the Sprint store. I'm going to try but I doubt they are just going to hand them out.
