Re: Scan bar code with the Diamond

ScanLife looks like a 2D scanner, similar to iNigma, since it presents you with a square [] scanning area.
Plus, I couldn't even get it to scan a box of cereal. It also doesn't utilize the Awesome focusing feature of our phone

Re: Scan bar code with the Diamond

I downloaded scanlife and went to their site to register (free). it works, but I don't know who would want it. I created a tag, then i used my phone to scan it (from the screen) and it immediately recognized it, checked online, and provided me with the info I used when I created it. But, it's not going to help you in the grocery store, that's for sure. If you register and can setup more than 3 (that's all you get for free) I guess you could catalogue or inventory your business or a collection of something with this.

Yes it works fine on the Diamond, but the ScanLife program only recognizes their own proprietary 2d barcodes. It doesn't recognize UPC codes, or other generic 2d codes. The codes it scans link to ScanLife's server to direct you to the link, in contrast with the link actually being encoded into the barcode.

Try a test barcode @ http://www.scanlife.com/examples.html

I'm sure there are other programs that can recognize other codes

Yes, as I thought I said, it worked. But, you can only use it to read their own barcodes - not products on the store shelves.

Re: Scan bar code with the Diamond

Guys, if you search xda for barcorama, that is a 1d upc scanner. also Baf is working on an app. Currently both are in alpha stages. Both work on the basis of you taking the picture and it then decodes it. Baf for certain is working on a way to keep the camera automatically scanning like the G1 app, rather than having to take the picture manually everytime. Give this a little time and I am sure it will be popping up.
