Couldn't upgrade with TPP

So I have the $7 total protection plan with sprint and just recently lost my Touch (so annoyed by this). Called Asurian hoping to possibly upgrade through the replacement, paying the difference between the touch and the diamond but had no go. Have others managed to get this done?

Also, does anyone have any experience in getting a replacement phone and then returning that to a sprint store for an exchange? They said getting the new phone would give me a new warranty on the new phone, but didn't know if that would also give the 30 day return policy.

Anyone have any experience with this?
