Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

Actually that makes a lot of sense. When I ordered the Diamond I ordered four of them for myself and three other people in my office. When they came in I of course turned mine on and started playing with it right away, checking out all the cool new features of my glorious Diamond. While I played with mine I called and activated all four phones.

When I was done three worked correctly and one did not. Yup, you guessed it, mine was the one that the data did not work on. So it would appear that if you get a Diamond and turn it on to play with it prior to calling Sprint CS to activate it, then you too will have issues with data.

Nice job on putting all that together.

Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

OK i think we have figured out this issues after talking to mike last night.......

1st scenario-- if device is powered on before being activated the device will be programed with default htc/sprint programming and custom user profiles will not be added to the device. IT looks to be able to fix this you can either do the fix found about with changing data profile and such or you could just do a ##786# -- master reset msl will be needed and it seems the activation token will be reset and this would allow u to activate properly.i have not personally tested this so if someone could test this thats device didnt work properly to begin with it would be helpful....ive also noticed another issue it seems that if u power on the device before u activate it clears a token or something on sprints network which wont allow u to activate the device online not sure if this is true or not but everyone i talked to that said they couldnt activate online had powered the device on prior to activating.

2nd scenario-- if device is never powered on and activated either online/over the phone it looks as if the device has a complete shut down while running customizations then boots up and does the hand free activation with sprint and everything seems to work well.

Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

Just got my diamond but hadn't read this thread yet, wish I had. While putting the screen protector on while doing initial charging, I accidently turned the phone on. Haven't tried activating yet, was just backing up my touch some more. Since it sounds like I screwed up the data just by having it turned on and letting customizations run since there was definitely an error in customization and it told me to call Customer disservice, I came here and found this thread instead.

My question. Has anyone tried the following procedure and do you think it would work.

1. Turn off my diamond
2. Go online and do activation.
3. Do a hard reset on the diamond and let customizations run.

Should this bypass the phone powered on problem? I hope so, please give me some thoughts. I probably won't wait more than an hour before I try this, so please give me some input soon if you can

thanx!

Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

oh well, couldn't wait. modified my proposed procedure and it worked so here's my suggestion for what to do if you turn on your phone before you activate it.

1) Write down your device id, MEID HEX: 123456789ABCD , either from underneath the battery or right off the box.

2) Put phone in airline mode (so network thinks its off)

3) go to www.sprint.com/activate and activate online

4) go to settings - system - clear storage - 1234 to hard reset

5) phone will hard reset and everything worked fine, actually rebooted twice more during the process. I tested by calling it, then after calling was working, I tested the internet. ALL GOOD!!!!

Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

Yeah my internet won't work.
I turned on the phone, let customizations run, and then activated it.
Then I flashed to Juicy's 2.4.
After that, I tried the method on the first page, but it still won't work.

Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

worked great, thanks guys!

Edit*

Actually it did work the first time I tried. Now after a hard reset the setting is still at a value of 1 but I am getting a new error that states

Dialed #777

Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues reset your mobile device according to your manufacture's documentation and try again.

Any idea?

Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

Hmmm... I think I came close to this by accident but I also think I messed something up by accident. I was on the phone last night (got the phone yesterday morning) with CS and they were giving me all the my EPST info so that I could enter it (it was all blank). She didn't get the change 0 to 1 on active profile, I did but it didn't work. BUT! I think I screwed something up, while I was doing the steps as she direted me I changed the default profile info instead of Custom Profile 1.

Can someone tell me what they got on the Default Profile? I know the user name is <MEID>@hcm.sprintpcs.com and the HA IP addresses are different. Particularly I think the AAA Shared Secret was a bunch of ASCI characters...

Can anyone browse into their EPST settings and tell me what they got in there?

HELP,
Just burned my first ROM ever on my first smart phone and can't get internet to work either. Some things I have issues with:

1. Hard reset, per page 83 of the owners manual, it doesn't work. How does anybody hard reset after installing Juicys latest ROM?

2. Try Start/Settings/System tab and click Update Profile is something I CAN"T DO. There is no UPDATE PROFILE under Start/Settings/System tab...HELP

Thanks!

Just got my diamond in the mail along with one for my husband. I opened the box and pluged them into charge. I was waiting for him to get home to activate since the account is in his name. I turned one on, but turned it back off when it got to the screen alignment. (I hadn't read this thread) Am I going to have this problem now? Or does the problem only occur if you finish the set up and get into the device operations?

I think you will be fine as the phone did not actually load up to have a chance to get the data provisioning screwed up yet.

Phew! Thanks! I was making sure I'd put the battery in right before plugging in the charger.

Default Profile from another device prolly wont do you any good (as its specific to the device) - as you noticed the user name is the device identifier (ESN or MEID) and the password is prolly a 32 digit hex value that shows/showed as special charactors in EPST. The only way I know to successfully write this value is thru QPST. To read this value, based on past experiences with PPCs, you will need a program like QXDM or CDMA Workshop. Note that you would also need an MFG bootloader. Now the technology used (to update the device over the air) from previous PPCs like the 6700,6800, and 6900 is a little different - but one would think that they are similar in some aspects. 1 notable difference is the fact that with the diamond it will completely program the device (MDN, MSID, NAI, etc) where as the older PPCs would only update the data profile in the EPST settings (would NOT update MDN, MSID, etc) - At this point i think your best bet would be to modify m.ip profile 1 to the correct values. As far as the PHA and SHA, if you should need to edit them, you can use ##778# to access m.ip profile 1 and actually be able to edit them. (MSL required of course) - once you've established profile 1 as enabled it should connect to data using that profile and if programmed correctly (and provisioned correctly on sprint's side) then it should work.

*edit* you could also try a hard reset and let customizations run, just to see if that reset the EPST settings...

Those settings your read me match profile 0. Yes, the AAA Shared Secret should be a bunch of Ascii or HEX (can be converted back and forth).

I would suggest doing a ##RTN# Reset of the device. That will take it back to day one, let HFA run and then go back to Juicy.

There are two ways to do a hard reset. Turn phone off, hold volume down, center ok button and turn on. Then press Volume up.

Or, go to dial pad, dial ##RTN# (##786#) and enter the MSL of the phone to reset the phone.

Alright ppl after trying everything I could find including all the helpful advice I found here my diamond was still internet less :cussing: any who this is what finally worked for me. I updated the prl from 60613 to 60614 check the forum its everywhere, entered prl update dialing ##prl# (##775#) after a soft reset whent to ##778# then data parameters where it says Rev. A change to disabled (I know, I know be patient) after this soft reset I had internet working, make sure to also have the mobile profile set to 1. Afterwards go to update profile (should work) then you can go back to ##778# and re-enable the Rev. A. My internet is now working like a charm! and it only took almost 3 weeks of tweaking and splitting hairs with sprint. BTW they know crap about this phone even one advanced tech told me to look for IOTA ](*,)

Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

I GOT IT!... ok, so finally i think i figured it out.. i was one of the people who could not get it to work after trying all of the methods on the first post, so this is how i did it... i tried hard reseting = didn't help.. i tried messing with the ##3282# and ##778# codes and values and nothing helped.. so i noticed that after the hard resets the values i put in were still there, showing that a hard reset doesn't do anything... so then i tried the ##RTN# reset and found that it changed back the original files, but it still didn't fix my internet.. so finally i flashed over to the stock sprint rom(found in upgrades forums) and then did the ##RTN# update again..so basically here is what you should do:

Alternate Internet Fix (if nothing else helps):
1) Backup all data (contacts, etc) using a program like PIMBackup or something like that.
2) Flash back to the stock Sprint rom (in upgrade forums)
3) Do the ##RTN# (##786#) and enter your MSL.. then go to menu and reset.. hit ok and then ok again to reset the device.
*** just so you know this reset will keep your internal storage.. nothing on that directory will get deleted***
4) Let the stock sprint custimizations run.. after they are finished your phone should automatically soft reset and then your done!

ps.. if your data still isn't working make sure your active profile is set to 1 (##3282# menu)
NOTE: i didn't have to do this so you should'nt have to.. but just in case i think it's a good idea

so this is what worked for me after nothing else does.. for those of you who still can't get your data to work try this and let me know if it helps..

Thanks guys for sharing and helping..

This works for all devices. A RTN Reset takes all of the settings of the device and returns them to Sprint's Default when it is shipped. This should fix basically any errors in the device.

Thank you so much. I have been driving myself crazy looking under the Vogue section for this answer. I took a Sprint Touch and converted it to Alltel. I couldn't get the data to work and came across your post 5 days later. A few differences in what I had to do.
First I went in with ##778
than I had to hit view and goto M.IP Settings
under there was the Active User Profile Index that I changed to 1
Again thanks.

Thanks for the help on internet issues in this thread.

Unfortunately, I still have a problem of sorts with internet access on my Sprint Diamond.

Internet access works ok on my phone with the stock Sprint ROM but will not work when I flash with an upgraded ROM. I have tried Juicy ROM (2 and 2.5), Mighty ROM and a couple of kitchen builds. The phone will work but the internet will not with any of the custom ROMS. When I flash back to the stock Sprint ROM, internet access works fine.

I have tried preventing the startup customization script that runs initially with the stock Sprint ROM (by resetting) and internet still works on the Sprint ROM so I know the key is not one of the scripts/programs that runs at startup.

Anyone else with the same problem or any solutions?

Thanks

I flashed Juicy 2.1 on one of my extra Diamonds and had Internet working without issue. As long as you have the user profile set to 1 and Internet is working prior to the flash, it should still work fine.

Re: Internet not working? Possible Fixes!!

Hey guys,
Don't know if anyone will have a suggestion since I'm still on the stock Diamond ROM, but I figured I'd run it by some experts here:

Two days ago I woke up to find my phone showing a PRL update screen. But nothing was happening. I couldn't cancel, and there was no data connection active. With it frozen, I did a soft reset. But now, I can't connect to the internet.

To clarify, the phone will still do the data dial (or what it looks more like to me is that it THINKS it's connected), but I can't actually get any data transferred. No email, no weather update, no Opera loading. I've tried another reset, looked at my settings and nothing has changed. Could this have something to do with that PRL update? When trying to "update profile" the phone now says that DM (I'm assuming Device Manager?) can't be opened.

I'm definitely at a loss here, but thought I'd run it my y'all in the forum before venturing into a call with tech support.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey drnezzy... It sounds like your settings got screwed up in that prl update. If you check your settings and your active profile is set to one and the method on the first page doesn't work, you may have to do the ##RTN# reset.. I described in more detail how this is done a few pages ago in this thread (post #100).. good luck and I hope you figure it out!

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I didn't have the MSL so I ended up having to call anyway. I just didn't know if there was anything else I could do without calling.

They simply walked me through the steps described in the original post. Thanks again. I'm back to fully functional.
