Internet Sharing Issues

I have this problem with my Internet Sharing application. Whenever I am tethering on my computer via the USB cable, my Diamond with drop the internet connection every 5 or 10 minutes. It's sorta sportadic really, but it's constant, and very annoying. I don't get any issues when online and browsing on the device itself, or when tethering via the Wi-Fi Sharing app - only in Internet Sharing with USB cable. I am currently running OMJ's latest 28014 rom, but this problem has been persistent for the entire time I've had the phone really.

The bad thing about it is - after getting booted maybe 3 or 4 times, the phone will not connect to the internet again until I soft-reset the phone. Gives me a network error. I just find it strange that it works after a reboot, so I don't think it's the actual network in my area. I have a constant 1-2 bars of EVDO in my home.

My thought is it has something to do with a connection timeout possibly? Or maybe when the phone turns off the screen it interrupts the connection after a certain period? (although it does work when the screen automatically shuts off, but not when manually turning the screen off)

Has anyone else had this sort of problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nate

Re: Internet Sharing Issues

My suggestion would be to try a different radio.

Also, if you get an SMS or Call, it will cancel your ICS connection. So that could be the problem as well.

Re: Internet Sharing Issues

i have had the same problem, and has not found a solution either. but while your internet sharing the phone gets extremely hot i would advise taking the back cover off, and sitting it in a ventilated area this improves it a little because i was thinking the heat had something to do with the disconnects considering i bricked a diamond because i left it sharing with with the gel sleeve on sitting on a bed upside down... and as far as roms its like a roll of the dice and some roms are better than others at sharing im not sure y

Re: Internet Sharing Issues

I have tried different radios and did not notice any difference. However, I will try flashing a different radio to confirm this, as I wasn't directly looking for this before. Also, I am aware a phone call or SMS tends to interrupt the connection, but it does not always, and that is rarely what causes my disconnect.

As for the heat issue, I don't believe that it is directly connected to the disconnect issue, but it sure would be nice to keep it cooler.

Thanks for the help guys, hopefully we can find an answer for this rgreen!

Re: Internet Sharing Issues

Have you tried a different USB cable?

They are notorious for going bad and causing some connection issues.

Re: Internet Sharing Issues

I've tried multiple USB cables, I use them so often they wear out in a few months usually, the cable I'm using now is fairly new.

I will try unchecking the "turn off in..." and see if it helps. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Re: Internet Sharing Issues

I also screw around w/ connection settings in the advance menu under select networks try mixing them up ex... put my isp where data goes, or work where isp it works for me sometimes not sure on the exact combo though but if u turn off your phone everytthing resets to default as a failsafe...

Re: Internet Sharing Issues

Capthr, changing the auto screen off to off, seems to have worked. Thanks!
