Re: Tethering on the Arrive?

What The??? Jay, are you serious? Wow.

I have to ask, do you have an HTC Arrive on Sprint right now, have tried this, and speak from experience? Also, do you not realize that the link you sent to XDA was to a thread where folks are attempting - WITHOUT succeeding?

Please provide evidence that my claims are wrong. As for flaming, I ranted mostly at the carriers, factually debunked some forum members, never threw personal insults at forum members (the latter would be flaming). Even now, I am not flaming you, only asking to check your facts and offer first hand experience.

Also, you completely missed my point. Tether should be a fully endorsed, DEFACTO way of life, and the carriers need to not only stop blocking it, but go out of their way to provide it. Do you dispute that? Even IF tethering is found to work via the funky drivers as posted on xda... what a terrible, unreliable way to go about it.

I stand by my comments, and that last reply was misleading to the readers here. I will say that there is a possibility that I have not found the correct configuration, and that tether MAY be possible, but every other aspect of my post would still stand on cement foundation, still valid.

Re: Tethering on the Arrive?

yes i do have an arrive and i do speak from experience. I absolutely agree that to not have an out of the box tethering solution is bs. I also agree that having to hack your phone just to tether is bs. However i have to say coming from a tp1 (never owned a tp2) that the basic functions of the phone are way better (calls text etc) ive never had to reboot this phone unlike every other windows phone ive ever owned. If it had tethering i would say (coming from a tp1) it is a major upgrade and ive yet to upgrade to mango which is supposed to make things even smoother. Iam not trying to flame, im trying to point people to that thread because i believe, as do a few others that have messed with it that tethering (even though its a hack) is not far away with a little work and a few testers.

Re: Tethering on the Arrive?

I guess i should also mention that iam the one who modified then posted the drivers. I have personally installed them on xp-32,7-32,7-64 computers. Though the window 7 computers were a pain in the ass.
Even if its "funky" drivers and a hack i just want/need my tethering and once again with a few testers i believe its possible

Re: Tethering on the Arrive?

I completely agree with your opinion that the Arrive is awesome, speaking from experience as a tp1, tp2 and now Arrive owner.

I have yet to load mango too. I could get it direct from my friends at MS, but am holding out for the final release just to keep life simple. I do have the dev tools loaded though, and the enhancements coming in this release really rock.

WIFI access point is the proper way to do tethering, of course, with NO drivers on the PC! Over the wire would be acceptable if power saving is the goal. But the sad reality is, its not the devs that suck here. They get stuck with whatever capability is provided by MS and the carriers. And I can tell you, its mainly the carriers that have to be convinced, as they themselves influence what sort of capability MS exposes - it is ultimately a partnership as the OS is created.

Re: Tethering on the Arrive?

Is it possible to tether with the ##634# code? Then hit Diag and enable the Diag mode?
Says it transfers DM commands between the modem and USB ports....

Or maybe enable the Auto Diag mode?

Either way disables Zune interface and allows me to connect with CDMA Workshop to do memory dumps and the like, but I don't tether (I have an aircard already) and just assumed it would work under this diag interface.

I am on Mango b2 on my Arrive.

Re: Tethering on the Arrive?

I got clarification from the Sprint vendor manager for HTC on this feature.

Hotspot/internet sharing will NOT be available for the Arrive as it was only built for the Windows Phone 7.5 GSM build, and not the CDMA build.

Yeah, that is the only thing that will be the cause of me gitting rid of this phone prematurely. I held hope that it was possible but am hearing that it may not be possible with this phone is bad for my.

I'm still hanging in there and hoping that something pops up. I am still optimistic and honestly believe that someone will find a way.

Re: Tethering on the Arrive?

this can't be right HTC said that MS was able to include tethering after their roms were finalized and that they would have to include it in a newer rom. MS said that only certain WiFi chips can support it (arrive has this chip) and that its also up to the carrier. I dont think this is a valid reason to leave WP as the fault is mostly on the CARRIERS!!!

Re: Tethering on the Arrive?

That's what I'm hoping for. Granted, I've never been an early adopter and this is as close as I've gotten. I usually come into things after it's been well established and hacked to pieces. I'm really hoping that after this has been out for awhile, others will begin to seriously play with this and come out with "Options" that are otherwise not given easily by the manufacturer or carriers.
