Quetion about Time Zone

My friend has PPC 6700 with Cingular(GSM) and mine is with Sprint(CDMA). We both live in Atlanta,GA and right now are on a project in Birmingham,ALABAMA. We were discussing changing time everytime we change the state and he said his Phone does it automatically, while mine does not. I have to go to settings and set mine for that time zone. Is it the network thing? I tried going to phone and running Time Sunchronization, but it did not help. Any suggetions? Thanks in Advance.

To my knowledge it is a network thing because I live in GA also and I know everytime we go to the Florida panhandle the time changes on its own. I have to remember to keep a lookout for it as it will mess with my mind.

For whatever reason (the calendar?) , Sprint PPC's don't change time zones on their own. Unless I'm missing something ..

Maybe that is just on the 6700s if thats the case because I remember when I had flip phones and crossed the state line into another timezone my flip would change.

Notice I said PPC's ........................................ because 6800's do the same thing.

Every Sprint (regular) phone I've ever seen changes timezones on their own.

I travel between time zones all of the time and my flip phones always changed as I assumed the time was coming from the tower. Since I've had a PPC (3 years) the time never changes. A real pain, as I travel in Indiana and they can't figure out if they want Daylight Savings or not. Guess some figure the cows get screwed up with time changes.

In the phone options under time synchronization there's an option to automatically sync time. It's off by default.

When you have this option set, you don't change the timezone. Instead it simply updates the clock to the local time. This works reasonably well as long as you don't need to compare outlook calendars on the fly. It won't do the corrections for timezone when looking at an Exchange server.

If you're cooking your own ROM you can turn the sync on by default through the registry as well.

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"NITZEnable"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROLPANEL\PHONEEXTENDFUNCTION\CDMA]
"SyncSystemTime"=dword:00000001
