I would've immediately thought to find the original owner instead of thinking free phone. I accidentally dropped my phone in the street and someone was nice enough to call someone on my contacts. But since you have gone this far, just hope they don't black list the phone.

But the settings for user name and password are typically preset into the rom depeding on the esn. Since it was from Sprint, it is sending the wrong information. There are some ways around this, but I do not want to go into specifics. Maybe someone else will help you or try searching a bit more.

I did try to point you in the right direction. I know we both have low post counts, but that language will not get you far if help is what you're looking for.

Now, now, lets all calm down. No need for all the language, and no reason for people to assume the worst about each other either.

I don't have the answer to your question, but I'm sure someone will.

I am not sure how you thought a phone you found in the street suddenly belonged to you. I hope you feel good being a thief.... You should have taken this phone to the nearest verizon location and turned it in.

Actually if it is a PPC6700 you wouldn't take it to a Verizon store - you'd take it to a Sprint store.

As for the fact that it is "blacklisted" as I understand it that just means they've flagged it in their system (blocked out connections from it's ESN) and therefore their system would reject a connection to it (i.e. it can't be used on their network).

HOWEVER, unless I am mistaken, I believe that if you turned it in, they could just as easily "UN-blacklist" it (re-activate its ESN on their system) and either return it to its original owner or (if the owner has already received a replacement) refurb it to give out to another customer as a replacement. When they said it was "useless" I think they just meant that you couldn't use it as long as it's ESN is being blocked.

I may be wrong about that, but if not, that makes the ethics of keeping it a bit more questionable, don't you think?

Low post count does not mean IQ, but I won't even go there. It's not worth it.

But somehow I am still willing to help you. The rom on the phone is pre-programeed with a user name and password specific to the original ESN on the phone. EVERY phone has a specific u/n to that phones ESN. Well you changed the ESN, and that does not update the pre-programmed u/n on the 6700.

Now, Verizon has your "new" ESN and is expecting that exact user name and password specific to your new ESN (from old phone). In order to get that specific u/n, you must know how to extract it from the old phone. Then transfer it to the 6700. But this is a lot work and might be better and trying to get it off the blacklist.

Please don't be a jerk. Ask nicely and patiently and someone will help
