flashing back to old ROM

i'm planning on reflashing the original Verizon image (i erased the contents of the extended ROM), then start using some of the ROMs around here -- (or cooking my own) -- so far i've used two of Kirvin's and BigJ's -- just want to start from scratch -- it seemed like my xv6700 ran extremely fast after the first upgrade (from stock to cooked)


so my question is: do i have to put my verizon phone in bootloader mode or just run the update program while synced to the computer?
