The phone would get low on power (sometimes with an instant drop of power from full to low) and become unstable - sometimes freezing an application or getting sluggish. I would then reboot and it would freeze.

Some apps that regularly connect connect to the internet use more power than others and thus they perhaps just appear be causing problems. Those that lose power more often would see issues more often.
I rarily have my stylus so I usely remove the battery to reboot. This once caused my phone to no longer charge because the contact points weren't getting a pristine perfect connection (despite appearing as such). Upon cleaning& microadjusting the contacts points it charges again.

I've also experienced the issue with the phone freezing upon reboot while usb attached to pc. It is what first made me think the problem wasn't power related.
However, there remains a possibility that other factors are involved.
I've long speculated that as power diminishes it loses ability to allocate some memory somewhere. So upon restart it then doesn't have enough resources to fully start.
For instance, when I design a new ROM that uses too much physical memory it freezes in the exact same way.

Tethering might have some impact with this issue in some way as well as other things not yet mentioned.

I was hanging on splash screen, and it would take 20min to load to Today. I pulled the relatively low battery out, put a fresh one in, and it boots like normal. INTERESTING!

THANKS! saved me some real confusion!

Yep, it's been about half battery related and half weatherpanel related.
It would seem the battery related issues are recoverable though.

WeatherPanel - you will be missed :,(

Well, I am on about my thousandth reboot. I do not have WP installed, and I dont have HTC Home. I am still having these problems. I am pretty darned frustrated cause I have cooked up all kinds of different versions of roms using helmis kithcen. I dont know what is causing it.

Has anything else worked for you guys not running WP or HTC Home? I mean, I can load up the OEM rom and it doesnt hang, but as soon as i cook up a rom, (regardless of how lite I make it) i still get hangups on splash.

I have been able to get it "unstuck" sometimes by charging the battery fully, then booting, but 98% of the time its a no-go. I am really hating re-setting up my phone every time I forget to charge the darn thing at night

Go to the Sprint store, have them swap out your battery.

I have found something I can replicate over. If i turn the radio off on my phone, I can soft reset as many times as i want and not get a hang. If I turn the radio on, and do a soft reset, I get the hang on splash every time. I am beginning to the think its something to do with the radio version.

I am running ver 1.41.00

If I remember correctly, I didnt have any hanging on boot issues until I upgraded the radio version. Is it possible to downgrade to a previous radio version? If so I am going to give that a try.

Also, what radio versions are you guys running?

Nice find.

hmmm.... interesting. Using the kitchen released a couple weeks ago, (not sure if it included any radio installs) I have radio 1.27.00
I haven't had to do a hard reset since.

Well it was at least 3 weeks ago, but I'm not certain if any of any of the latest kitchens even touch the radio. Something you will have to research a bit unless someone else knows right away.

Also, when you say you turn the radio off I suppose you are referring to turning the phone off (like in flight mode) but this would also free up battery power as it is the most power consuming component of the phone. So it's still not completely ruling out power complications from the equation.

Is there any way I can fix this without hard resetting?
I have not backed up my contacts, and those are very important.
I know it's not the battery, as it was full when I soft reset earlier today..
