Let us know if you end up getting a new one or a refurb. I'm in a similar situation right now and would like to know what kind of replacements Asurion is offering these days.

Thanks!

Mine was replaced about four months ago, after I managed to drop the original into my cup (don't ask). With the $50 charge, my replacement was either new or as new... Granted, I've already scuffed the mini-USB up again, but it looked and operated like new out of the box. The ROM had been upgraded to the most recent official one. It sold me on the value of insurance for a machine this expensive...

So i got the new phone just now -- and i checked the EPST - Not a refurb! brand new in the box! activated the phone, upgraded the ROM to 3.5, then the radio to 1.41, i'm good to go!

I've done this twice. The first time was around July 06 and what i got was great. It was as if I got the phone from the store. Same accessories, same box, everything. I just recently did it again and this time I was a little dissapointed. The battery was some piece of sh*! that was smaller (1100mAh) than the original battery (1350mAh). The charger was one that ive never seen before, only outputed 700mA compared to the 1A from the original...sure, little slower charge time but still WTF! Didnt get all the accessories like I did the first time. I even called them up about it and the woman said that they change vendors from time to time (a bunch of BS, they are just getting cheap) and that this is what I should expect. I was pretty dissapointed compared to my first insurance experience.

But as for the phone, its good. I actually got a newer rev phone, so it was a different bootloader...i could also tell the joystick was a little longer than my previous one and made the navagation with it easier. Its not bad to get a "new" phone for only 50 bucks.

I just got a replacement yesterday and if it's a refurb, it's a pretty good one. No scratches at all, touch screen seems to be lacking sensitivity along the edges, but nothing serious. In any event, it's a whole lot better than the one I returned, which had a constantly misaligning screen.

If your phone is still under warranty, I recommend you try to swap it at a Verizon store since you'll get it within an hour, and with less hassle.

I have had 2 and both were Brand spanking new, the 1st came w/ a new stylus that had a ball bearing built in to keep it in. I say go for it. Request it early in the week so you dont have to wait the weekend to get it.

My original phone that I got new from Verizon was having some issues with freezing when receiving calls. I figured it was the radio messing up, so I called it in.

They sent me a refurb that would not do OTA programming. It also had a bent battery conductor, it worked but looked like it might fail in the future. Plus the battery cover kept falling off. It took me two weeks to explain to them they sent me a bad phone, eventually they sent me another refurb.

The second refurb I got yesterday, also has issues. The thumb stick feels like it is ready to break off. Also the screen produces a high pitched noise when on, the kind that gives people headaches. Called it in again this time, took me 30min on the phone to get a new one sent out. Really hoping the next one won't have anything wrong with it.

I am really disappointed with Verizon.
