you're fine. In 911 mode you can't place other calls and in some locations the police can track your phone. You still have to talk to the 911 operator to tell them your problem, so since you hung up quickly they're none the wiser.

just a quick anecdote, I had reason to dial 911 a while back and learned about the emergency mode. Sprint connected me to wrong sheriff's dept one county over (must have been on the border), and they gave me the direct number to the correct office. It was then I discovered about the emergency mode, and having to reboot it to make an outgoing call. This was on a 6600, definitely a helluva lot slower than the 6700, which ain't exactly greased lightning itself compared to a plain old no-fun cell phone. Fortunately, this was not a life/death situation, but while I was staring at the Windows splash screen I had visions of watching someone die because my phone needed a soft reset. What a commercial that would make for microsoft!

"In Soviet Russia 911 dials YOU!" But in all seriousness, don't worry about it Normally if the call goes through, they call you back. Standard operating procedure.

When I actually had to dial 911 I was in no condition to figure out how get out of e-mode. Middle of an emergency, have my phone charged up for once, and I can't use the damn thing becuase I don't know how to get out of e-mode (yeah, I know, it's obvious if you just read the screen - funny how you gloss over stuff when the shit is really flying). The truly sad part is I was trying the call the State police with a direct # (I live in the county) but couldn't because of that damn e-mode.
It's more of a hazard than a help to me. Since our 911 service doesn't have GPS locating, it's of no value at all to me right now. |
