HELP! Sprint to Cellular South

I have spent the better part of the last week searching the forums. I've come to the point I have ask questions.

I have had at least 4 PPC phone editions. I have cooked ROMs before using the PPC Kitchen. (Which is great BTW) This is my 2nd 6700. I bought it from ebay because my last one died. It is a Sprint phone and I was hoping to unlock it for use on Cellular South. The kitchen and all worked so well before that I thought it would be a no brainer.

I have successfully unlocked it using the application from XDA-Developers. I have put a new ROM on it using the PPC Kitchen software choosing Cellular South info. The ROM successfully loads onto the phone.

I called Cellular South and gave them the ESN number and they activated it. But, the last step, they say is to call *228. This call will either not complete (drops) or gives error messages.

I don't know if this is normal until the *228 step is completed, but it still says it is a Sprint PCS phone. I cannot seem to "convince" the phone that it is Cellular South.

When I pull up the PRL version in settings, it is 20224 which from what I am finding is clearly a Sprint PRL. So, obviously this could be the problem. But, I have been unable to find a copy of a Cellular South PRL to download.

I don't know if this is necessary information, but my bootloader is v.32. I updated the phone with the latest APAC file, but the bootloader remained at v.32. The kitchen still acts like it is working even with the ancient bootloader. I did wonder if I needed to download an older kitchen because of my bootloader. I used to have a previous version.

Also, I've had to choose the NOid or I get a country code error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my last ditch effort before relisting it on ebay.

Re: HELP! Sprint to Cellular South

Thanks for searching. Most people would come in asking for help from step 1. But, you missed one thing, you HAVE to change the phones PRL. You can't just flash a ROM. As a matter of fact, ROM will not make any difference as long as it doesn't customize the wrong ESPT settings. I use a the AKU 3.3 when flashing Apaches to Cricket... Anyways, you need to change the PRL via ##775. The problem is I can't find one for Cellular South, I looked for you... so search around, btw, is Cellular South the same as US Cellular? I read that somewhere.

Re: HELP! Sprint to Cellular South

I appreciate your taking the time to answer.

I obviously wasn't sure exactly what the problem was, but I was investigating PRLs. I have come up with a list of PRLs for Cellular South. It may not be inclusive, but some of them are

1382
1394
1996
5660
5007 (this one is on a loaner phone I'm using that does work)

I've checked into taking it off of the loaner phone I have. But, I see no way to do it. It has no ability to connect to a computer. And, it has no ability to search through it. Any ideas here? It's an old LG flip phone.

If I find someone on Cell South with a friendlier phone, would I be able to take the PRL off of the phone with active sync? Do you know what folder it would be in? I tried finding the PRL in my sprint 6700 and couldn't. I can see it in settings, but I don't know where I would get it from in the phone.

In any case, I can't find the PRLs, either - just references to them.

As far as I know, Cellular South is not the same as US Cellular. Cellular South is a regional CDMA provider. It covers Mississippi and some surrounding areas (including Memphis, TN.)

I searched corolada.com/prl to see if any of the PRLs were on the site. But they weren't.

Oh, I have an ignorant question. Would it matter what phone they had? If I found someone with a 6800 could I use their PRL? I have noticed a few Cellular South users on this forum. I thought about emailing them to see if they could send the PRL. Would that be acceptable forum etiquette?

I found someone on XDA who claimed his 6800 was on CS, so I asked him to send me the PRL. As far as getting it off a phone, you need QSPT, it's not stored in system storage. PRLs are PRLs, only difference is some are non EvDo.

Re: HELP! Sprint to Cellular South

I am probably the user on xda with CS; I am not clear as to how to get the PRL from the phone?

Re: HELP! Sprint to Cellular South

I appreciate your getting back with me. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get it off, either. In the thread above, it says something about QSPT. Hopefully, PDAPhoneJunkie will pop in to shed some light on the situation.
