now this is buggin the crap outta me

MMS and pic mail
i know this thread will either be deleated or locked in 10 minutes but im gonna give it a try anyway here goes nothing

ok maby this is backward thinking? but lets try this! my wife's "pos" pink flip phone gets pic messages just like i used to get with AKU 2.2, so what dose her's have that mine dosent? a .wap .XHTML browser right! so i did a little "goog'in" and found there are a grip of wap browsers out there. so i downloaded "winwap 4.0" for win mobile 2003-5.0-6.0 "http://www.winwap.com/" when i tried to open the pic mail page in this browser the page is too large to be rendered (foiled again) but one thing i noticed, it tried to take me to the same page as I.E.??????????????????? so its not the browser (just to double blind it i also tried "opera" and "netfront 3.3") must be the phone then right? or is it the way it connects to the internet? so im going through the old AKU 2.2 and trying to see what the differances might be.

Now as I stated before. this thread will prob be nixed real quick! some how this sub hits a nerve around here, but I'm gonna figure this out and I think I'm lookin in the right direction now. its not the browser its the phone and the way its connected to the internet!! mabey different servers for EVDO and 1X? I would love the help of someone who knows a little more about the EVDO-1X systems and how they work any help will would be great.

we can do this as a community I know we can

I wish you the best of luck. Like I said, another user here named "bonuts" already spent a lot of time developing a workaround and posted it for his fellow Sprint users--free for the taking.

When and if you figure out a better way I'll be the first one cheering.

Edit: Here's his post so you don't have to search for it:

Oh and if you want people to help you may want to use a more descriptive subject line for your thread.

ok so far so good. iv tried to change the identity of the unit and still i get the same thing. total bummer. but i have some good news! when i used NetFront 3.3 set as the "default browser" and with view set to "desktop" i got decent results. when you receive a pic open the link. you will get the page we have all come to hate. no worries just below the small pic there is a check[] be shure it is checked, now scroll to the right there is a box that says "order photos and gif" tap this box. in the dropdown select, "download" and click the button marked (go) the download manager opens and shows a .zip file change .zip to .jpg and select where you want it to go on mine its My Pictures then go to pics and vid and view the pic. it sounds complicated but its super easy give it a try. not perfect but a little better i think

Ok time to chime in (again) on this hopefully to provide a little more information for all the people that are still interested in this topic. First though, the search feature still has lots of info on this. A few browsers that were reported to work in aku 3.3. Some reported netfront and opera as working, but didn't leave details. I gave a detailed write up quite similar to yours but using minimo (free, but slow). The browser identity always seems to be the first thing tried, but has not worked for PIE.

Here's another link with some info for people:

I'm convinced now its not the browsers identity. but the phone its self. and the way the server identifies it. next in going to try a clever disguise (funny nose and glasses ) if this dosent work I'm hucking this thing at a wall

Could someone with AKU 2.2 please visit http://showip.net and post what they get for UA-OS under "headers".

With 1.02 kitchen I get "Windows CE (Pocket PC) - Version 5.1"
